This place was recommended to us by our B&B host so we tried it one evening and had a wonderful dinner sitting on one of the sidewalk tables. The tables around us were filled with other Italians engaged in lively conversation. they say that if you eat where the locals eat you can’t go wrong. Sooooo true in this case. The pizza was so very delicious. It was the first time I’d had this style of pizza, very thin crust with no edge crust…not overly filling like the pizza in Canada is which has so much dough and crust. The tiramisu was fantastic and I knew we had to eat there again. Compared to the touristy places in the heart of Rome this place was very reasonably priced. The day we were leaving Italy we returned for pizza again but this time we were only able to sit indoors. The place was alive with energetic conversations at all the other tables…again all in Italian. This place Semele like a real family-run business. Nonna was working the cash and the daughter was running the show. It was like a finely oiled machine. We had a great late lunch and it was the perfect way to end our visit to Italy. I would recommend this place to anyone at all. This restaurant was our favourite place to eat of all the places we tried over our...
Read moreGreat meal close to where we were staying. Was trying to find a good place to eat in an area of Rome that appears to be full of rather touristy eateries... and a guide book led us here. So grateful that we found it!
We were glad we arrived at opening time - 7pm - as there were plenty of tables available... by the time we left there was a queue outside which on a Tuesday night speaks a lot about the popularity of the place! Service by the end was a bit hectic (hence only 4 stars) but I don't blame them as they were really busy!
Our meals were a pasta from the specials board, some small starters and pizzas. Pizzas were made by three guys working relentlessly to fulfil all the orders in an open area at the back of the restaurant - was great to watch them in action! Oh, we also shared a couple of desserts that were rather nice (I guess not made in house but I might be wrong).
The meal was great value - about 75 euros for a family of 5. One word of warning - we received the bill and hung around waiting for the waiter to take the payment only to find out we had to pay at a central desk.
It was a great way to end our wonderful...
Read morePerfect finale of our Roma degustation tour! Giacomelli was what we were looking for. A place that offers authentic and tasty Italian food. We arrived around 8:30pm on a Saturday night and were lucky to get a table for two as the place is clearly loved by locals. The dishes we ordered were delicious. We had a little pizza verdura (you can choose between small, medium, and large) for our entre. The pizza was excellently baked in a wood fired oven to the point that the base remained crunchy while the sugo al pomodoro had a perfect temperature, the mozzarella was nicely melted, and the vegetables tasted super warm and fresh. For mains we had the tasty Penne alla Giacomelli and the Ravioli di Ricotta e spinaci. To sum it up we enjoyed a lovely fresh and homemade Tiramisu. The staff are friendly, helpful, and chatty, and serve you super quick. Il locale reminded me so much of these Ristorante from the 80s’ and 90s’ Really, if you love the old time and simple style places that offer delicious food, this...
