I had the best meal of my 8 day solo trip in Rome. This place wasn't on any list or video I watched before my trip, nor did I plan to eat here. But was hungry and it just emerged in front of me as I walked through this small square.
Got the Osso bucco, and I was wondering if it was the “white” version not the one with tomatoes. And yes, it was - their version if it. And it was amazing. Served with a side of braised greens. Ate it with a glass of barolo and it was perfect.
Finished with an amaro and then walked off into the night.
The service was friendly, and they were patient with my very rudimentary Italian. But, they do understand English well if you’re not comfortable ordering in Italian. Come earlier in the evening if you want to sit outside. I’m not sure how “touristy” this place gets but I came in the low season and most of the clientele were not tourists.
Lastly this was the first place I ate at that didn’t have a cover (bread basket / place setting). I don’t mind cover since it’s usually less than 2 euros but I found it a nice touch that they didn’t put a basket of bread before me as I sat down.
I went back on my last night in town. I will be back when I'm...
Read moreI visit Rome every other month on average. When in Rome, I always visit Giulio Passami l'Olio at least once. Wonderful ambience and friendliness. Relaxed. I love the staff. I love the food (in particular the vitello tonnato, the pasta dishes and the carpaccio, not to forget the tiramisu for afters, and do look at the blackboard for the specials of the day!). They also have a very good selection of wines (again, please check the wine blackboard for specials of the month, many of which are served by the glass). Don't hesitate ask the wonderful staff for advice! They know their stuff, they are fluent in English, if you don't parla italiano, and they will be extremely charming and helpful. - There is live jazz or rock quite often. Book a table and ask when next they have live music. I simply love this place, and I'm sure that you will! The only reason I haven't given them five stars is that I reserve the last star for VERY expensive, traditional and formal restaurants with Guide Michelin food; I doubt that Giulio Passami l'Olio will ever gain two stats in the Guide Michelin, and never mind that, just go there and enjoy yourself...
Read moreThis restaurant was recommended to us by our tour guide . The food was good the service was bad . The waitress walks like she owns Rome with arrogant attitude . A couple came with their dog which was not on the leash , and my daughter is scared . The waitress knew the couple and started talking to them . I then asked if they could put the dog on the leash so we could have our meals in peace, the waitress then turned around and said to the couple I don’t like people that complain about dogs thinking that I don’t understand Italian . Even though one of the guys said to her don’t say that they could understand you , and the waitress said so what if they do . This message is for you calm down and treat people with respect you are a nobody . I was going to leave you a tip for the service but you ruined it with your big mouth . Since you don’t like people that complain about dogs I don’t like people like you who think they are something . Overall the...
