A Hidden Gem in Testaccio – A Must-Visit in Rome While strolling through the charming streets of Testaccio, we stumbled upon Masto purely by chance – and what a lucky find it was! From the moment we saw the restaurant, we were drawn in by its warm and inviting atmosphere. The interior is stylish yet cozy, striking the perfect balance between modern elegance and traditional comfort.

Masto is not just a restaurant; it’s also a delicatessen and an Aperitivo bar, offering a fantastic selection of wines and gourmet products. The extensive wine list impressed us, and the friendly, attentive staff made us feel welcome and well taken care of throughout the entire evening.

The menu features classic Roman dishes, and we opted for Gnocchi Cacio e Pepe and an artichoke lasagna. Both were beautifully prepared and absolutely delicious. A standout detail was the pepper used in the Cacio e Pepe—it had a unique, refined flavor that made the dish even more special.

As a delightful surprise, the kitchen sent out a selection of small bites, including parmesan pieces drizzled with Aceto Balsamico. These were simply divine and a great way to start the meal. To accompany our food, we enjoyed a glass of Franciacorta, which paired wonderfully with our dishes.

Although we were too full to order dessert, the wonderful staff treated us to a small glass of dessert wine on the house, which was a lovely and much-appreciated gesture. It was a perfect way to round off an already fantastic dining experience.

For the quality of food, service, and overall experience, the prices are more than fair. We left feeling completely satisfied and already looking forward to our next visit to Rome—Masto will definitely be on our list again!

We have been visiting Masto; a hidden gem for over 4 years. During Covid the lovely owner Rita sent us wine! So yes, they ship. They have the BEST olive oil (Olio Extra Vergine di oliva) you can ever imagine tasting. The cured meats/cheeses/and wine selections are outstanding. Menus are available in English and Italian. Do not miss the chocolate selection at the end of the meal. This last time we came to visit we met our neighbors who live in Trastevere and decided to have a joint birthday party. We asked Rita if we could host a private birth party for two (birthday ladies) for 30 people within two days. So 28 of the guests were locals and gave their seal of approval after the party! Rita and her staff always make us feel so comfortable. The wine was poured as if we were part of a the Trevi Fountain and we went home gigantic smiles and full bellies. Please try the Meatballs, Egg plant Lasagna or the Ragu Lasagna and freshly homemade Gnocchi Pasta. Yes, I tried them all and I want more. For us the Habemus is their supreme wine but do not count out the Monteflaco Sagrantino with your meat dishes. A fantastic white wine for starters is Stefano Antonucci. The wines are from local places that you cannot find anywhere else. They also have a marvelous rum and chocolate selection to be paired with either the Rum or sweeter red wine. The staff Rita, Veronica, and Martha were all smiles and extremely helpful. I know Roma has a lot of selections but do not miss an opportunity to discovery a home away from home and to meet new friends who will be in your life after your first toast. Update 2024: Our second visit to Rome was a blast! We came back this year, mostly because of Masto and everyrhing that could be found here. From great people to perfect food and wine. I can't add nothing much to my last year's post. Everything is on the highest level possible and we enjoyed it once again. To be more precise, this time, twice in two days. See you again, as we're not customers anymore, but friends!

2023: Perfect place to enjoy with all the senses in Rome. Wine bar with marvelous selection of wines (we discovered and loved cesanese and pecorino) and magical cuisine. Every dish has been skillfully made with perfect ingredients from different part of Italy. You will feel the difference in every bite. Now, the best thing are the people who run this place.
