Mastro Giorgio — Restaurant in Rome

I do not know where to begin. This is one of the worse restaurants we've ever dined at, and for sure atrocious customer service experience!!!!

Our stay in Italy was very short, we came to visit Linea Pelle Rho Fiera in Milan for business, we then decided to go to Rome for a couple of days to enjoy the attractions and the beautiful cuisine.. Once in Rome, our Italian friend (who lives in Rome) recommended that we eat at La Fraschetta Di Mastro Giorgio (amongst 2 other restaurants) as they were all 10 to 15 minutes walk from our hotel.

We sat at our table and waited to be served, but the waitress (very short, slim frame dark hair tights back in a ponytail) that was supposedly meant to see to us was too busy kissing one of the customer's (who was paralytically drunk) on the lips!! We could not believe what we were seen! Between serving tables, she would give this guy a few kisses on the lips. That was incredibly disturbing and off putting to see!! By the time she came to our table to take our order, we had waited over 25 mins! We were tempted to walk out however the rainy weather put us off.

When the lady came to our table, she was not polite, instead she was speaking to us abruptly and raising her voice in a very rude manner.. we were quite taken aback by this and did not know what to make of it, but we were enjoying Rome and did not want this to put us off so we decided not to pay attention to her rude mannerism.

When our food arrived, she slammed it on the table and walked off! She had a constant frown on her face every time she came to our table or made eye contact with us.. Although it's NOT ok for any establishment to behave as such, we initially thought she is overly stressed and simply does not have the coping mechanism, but to our surprise, she was smiling with all the other guests near by. This began to infuriate us but we had already stared our food and wanted to eat as quickly as possible and leave.

Every time she made contact with us, her behaviour worsened and it was borderline abusive. When I kindly asked her if there was wifi facility at the restaurant, she shouted "NO" and walked off.. everyone around the table was staring at us in surprise.

This lady had pushed us to the limit by this point, so my sister decided to call another waiter to find out what exactly is this woman's role in this restaurant? The gentleman was very polite and cheerful, he proceeded to confirm that he as well as the lady in question are both join owners of the restaurant. This was very surprising to us as no one in their right mind would behave so unprofessionally and give their restaurant a bad name! On the same token we could understand why she was careless and fearless as it was her restaurant and she probably felt she could do anything she pleases.

All in all, this woman is unprofessional, disgusting and clearly racist as she singled us out from all the other diners and decided to mistreat us for no reason whatsoever! She hated us from the minute we walked in, she spoke to us with disgust and was awful to deal with.

I promised myself to share my experience and write a review as soon as I got back to London in order to save others from going through what we had experienced. People need to know that this restaurant is part owned by a racist woman who for no apparent reason decided to make our experience an awful one!! The food is nothing special, the lamb meat we ordered was chewy, and the salad was basic and tasteless in comparison to other salads we've had at other restaurants in Rome. Ieri sera ho trovato questo locale per puro caso online siccome cercavo un posto a testaccio dove mangiare, senza andare nei soliti posti famosi del quartiere. Avevo sicuramente delle aspettative, siccome è un ristorante che ho ritenuto esteticamente molto molto bello, anzi, neanche sembra di stare a Roma, e anche le portate dei piatti avevano un aspetto meraviglioso! Il problema è tutto questo non basta affatto!!

1. Il personale due donne, poco attente a chi fa visita al locale, siccome né io né la persona che era con me siamo state minimamente considerate, neanche tra una pietanza e l'altra per domandarci come stesse andando la nostra cena! Parecchio deludente, è la prima volta che mi capitava una cosa simile in un ristorante, e non perchè uno debba farlo per forza, attenzione! Ma mostra che chi viene a mangiare è quanto meno considerato nel feedback che può dare o meno! 2) TEMPI DI ATTESA, VERGOGNOSI! e qui torniamo al punto uno, siccome a quanto pare è un problema quello del personale, che non ho trovato attento, e vi assicuro che al mio tavolo non si è mai avvicinato nessuno, mai! I piatti serviti solo prendendo e appoggiando il prossimo! MA SCHERZIAMO?. Quindi ricapitolando! Siccome i tempi di attesa sono un problema nel locale e mi è sembrato di averlo letto in varie recensioni e provarlo come esperienza, dedicare attenzione a chi viene a mangiare, penso sia il minimo! 3) ho chiesto il menù, mi è stato risposto frettolosamente, "scannerizza qua" o una cosa simile, insomma scannerizzo, okey, ma anche dare un consiglio siccome è un ristorante con piatti elaborati non sarebbe male! Ho ordinato senza neanche chiedere perchè davvero, vista l'accoglienza...non è che se siamo due ragazze giovani, allora l'attenzione al cliente vale meno, e di più a chi è sopra i 50! Attenzione a queste piccolezze! I clienti sono sempre uguali e meritano la stessa attenzione! 4) Ho ordinato un vino alla mescita, perchè la persona che era con me non poteva bere quel giorno, io direi, siccome è un vino alla Mescita, di fare almeno un elenco di 3/4 vini, anzichè dire che c'è il menù con il quarcode, parecchio vergognoso a mio avviso, anche perchè il locale ha vari vini di varie cantine, sarebbe stato interessante sentire cosa mi avrebbe proposto la cameriera, e poi avrei fatto le mie eventuali valutazioni! Molto deludente!
2. I PIATTI CHE ERANO MOLTO BELLI DA VEDERE, avevano tutti lo stesso sapore! Prima cosa, capisco che la cipolla sia veramente meravigliosa e aveva un sapore buonissimo! MA METTERLO IN OGNI PIATTO IN CUI NEANCHE VENIVA CITATO NEL MENÙ, è stato davvero divertente, ho sentito anche il tavolo davanti a me che commentava la stessa cosa! Unica cosa a mio avviso è forse l'antipasto che vagamente poteva salvarsi, perchè dico questo? Perchè il mio risotto (che probabilmente ho dsvvero sbagliato a ordinare) non sapeva di nulla! E veramente forse è colpa mia ad averlo preso, ma in un ristorante così particolare in cui compare questo piatto sul menù, dovrebbe almeno avere un minimo di sapore! Gli asparagi non erano molto buoni, bolliti bene, ma non deliziosi, la scorsa di arancia nel mio risotto, NON SI SENTIVA, il salmone crudo che avevo nel piatto si era cotto, e la burrata era una delle poche cose che forse era buona, ma nell'insieme non mi è piaciuto affatto, e non è un piatto che sono capaci di fare, ah, inoltre era completamente sciapo! Deludente! Mia sorella ha ordinato tagliolini al ragù bianco di polpo....ancora cipolla, non capisco cosa centrasse nel piatto, e la pietanza non sapeva proprio di polpo, era una pasta alle patate, lo avete per caso frullato con del purè? Non lo so, perchè è l'unica cosa che abbiamo pensato, il polpo non si sentiva, l'unico pensiero era che lo aveste frullato, peccato, altro piatto bocciato. Questo aveva un minimo di sapore, ma la pasta al polpo, no, credetemi. Le polpette al bollito, semi buone, forse sulla carne loro come ristorante sono più ferrati, o primi tipo amatriciana, ma a quel punto vado da Felice.Peccato, servizio NO, piatti assaggiati...

This is a fantastic restaurant in a quiet neighborhood a bit off the beaten track. We had a starter of roasted eggplant encrusted in a fried batter with a delicious and intriguing sauce. Following that, we had two pasta primis that were very unique and delicious takes on traditional Roman dishes. Finally we had a wonderful dolce with strawberry gelato and a warm chocolate brownie/cake with fresh strawberries and a subtle strawberry sauce. The food was over the top, the service was absolutely impeccable, and the prices were good considering the quality of both the food and the experience. We ate at several places in Rome, using both Tripadvisor’s and Stanley Tucci’s recommendations as guides. This was far and away the best food and service we had in Roma. We have been to Italy many times and have eaten in some of the best restaurants in many of the places we have visited, including Venezia, Padova, the Dolomites, etc. This meal ranks at the very top of our gastronomical experiences in a country renowned for its food. The son of one of the partners in the business was our server, and he was both engaging and full of excellent recommendations.
