This place is not meant for non-locals (and non-Caucasians). Staff were rude and unhappy about having to speak English. Specifically, the pasty looking one with the buzz cut and tattoos made a big show of saying “in Italy we speak Italian, when I go to England, I speak English. But here, only Italian.” This should have been our sign to leave the place, but we were very uncomfortable and in a new environment, so we tried to laugh it off. However, when a Caucasian man ordered in English, there was no such comment (we’re Asian and our first language is English) and the staff took their order without any complaints.
Subsequently, we only ordered 2 of the fried looking things (£3 each) and 2 plates of a mix of meat and vegetables (this came up to £22 in total, despite the small portions) and the prices of the items on the plate were not displayed clearly. I did not take any pictures as I was too uncomfortable, and also because the food was cold, bland, and not to our taste.
I usually try not to leave poor reviews because everyone needs to get by in this economy, but this place left a sour taste in my mouth, and I would not want anyone else to go through the same treatment. I hope the business owner reconsiders his staffing and encourages a more inclusive culture in...
Read moreHad my second arancini in my life, and what a difference. My first (at another place) was good but nothing special, and I was recommended to go to this Sicilian place to try the real thing. I had a traditional arancini with ragu and saffron rice, and it was wonderful. Perfect texture and mouthwatering flavours. The guy behind the desk was a little abrupt and told me I had to order in Italian. I gave my terrible Italian a try and we had a good laugh. I enjoyed it but can also understand if some may not appreciate the service. In all, The place has a fantastic atmosphere and I can recommend this as an experience for anyone. You can also take an arancini on the go. It’s a perfect little meal if you are in a hurry or...
Read moreHad lunch on a Sunday (around 2:00pm). Ordered Parmigiana di melanzane alla siciliana, (Eggplant Parmesan)and a anacini di riso (a rice ball coated breadcrumbs and deep fried. The parmigiana was nice but too salty to my taste. The arancini was delicious, crispy from the outside and filled with meat, cheese, tomatoes and rice. For dessert I had cannolino which is a small cannoli, filled with sweet ricotta cheese, and a cappuccino. The dessert are the reason this place is so popular. Such a beautiful variety of sweets. Service was okay, not as personal as one expect, perhaps because the place was very busy. Was difficult to find a table to seat.... I will certainly be back to explore more of these...
