This little gem was found late night waking to the pantheon. The wait staff was superb, the right touch of elegant formality reflective of stately Italian manners.
For appetizers, the calamari was superbly seasoned and cooked. Soft to bite, the bites melting in one's mouth. My children were brave enough to consume the tentacles and we're pleasantly surprised...with one becoming a fan. The zucchini flowers were tasty, but unique taste to my family.
The dinner was superb, the best pasta we ate during our trip. We tried the fettuccine bolognese, gnocchi, and the arabica. All of which were fresh, flavorful, and cooked scrumptiously. The arrabiata had a lovely bite well balanced with the tomatoes. All the pasta was cooked to perfection, each bite improving on the last. We also had the sea bass which was cooked gorgeously under thin slices of perfectly cooked mildly crispy potatoes.
For dessert, we had creme Brule, Panna cotta, and a ricotta blueberry dessert reminiscent of a pie... But so much more (in a Texan who loves pie...). They were all delectable without exception.
The espresso was sublime. A taste of cocoa with mild spice and minimal lemon. A fabulous mouth feel. The aftertaste lingered luxuriously afterwards... So divine that no further bites of dessert were possible lest one losses the feeling.
We went to dinner with 3 kids, ages 11, 8, and 8. The were very accommodating. The decor was lovely considering this a restaurant in a small road. It was lovely with abundant fresh flowers.
I highly recommend this restaurant. It was the last dinner after 5 day vacation in Rome. We are at a different place each night. This...
Read moreJust awful! We came here because it was conveniently located and always had a crowded outdoor area. And is super cute and rustic looking. As soon as we walked in there was tension between the workers. One gentleman was banging stuff around and seemed to be in a really bad mood. We were seated by someone else they brought us menus and asked if we wanted still or sparkling water. We know if we say yes to either water option it comes in a bottle and there is a charge. Fine, we’ll take a bottle of still water. Then we are handed menus and brought bread, we have experienced seemingly free bread, that is brought to your table without being asked about it and then having a charge for it on our check, again fine we’ll take it. We ordered an appetizer to share, prosciutto and melon and then 2 pasta dishes. I had the fettuccine with meat sauce and my husband had the spaghetti with clams. The app fine although the melon was less then ripe, we know it’s not in season so no big deal. Then the pasta came…. The meat sauce was SO bad I couldn’t tell if it was actually bad like turning rotten or just really poorly made. I ate a few bites and decided it’s better to not eat it than get sick. The spaghetti with clams had many broken shells. Tried to take the shell pieces out and ended up chewing on a shell piece and then fearing eating anymore.
This was our last night in Rome we wanted to leave without conflict and grab something to eat somewhere else. So we asked for the check.
On the check we were charged for 2 cover charges, 2 breads, and that bottle of water. I asked about the bread and they said yes bread...
Read moreEmilio. That’s the reason we’ll go back — and of course for the wonderful food at a fair price.
When searching for the right spot, my priorities were clear:
Around lunchtime, I stumbled across this gem and noticed many locals enjoying their meals — always the best sign. I stepped inside to learn more, and saw even more locals! So after a quick greeting and a few words with Emilio, I knew immediately this was where we’d go for dinner.
That evening, with dear friends flying in from California for their first night in Rome, the stakes were high — I wanted their welcome dinner to be memorable. I had requested a quaint table best suited for our group of six, and Emilio delivered. His personality shined throughout the evening, embodying why Italians are frequently known as the world’s most passionate hosts when it comes to sharing food and wine.
We all selected widely different items from the menu, AND you know a dish is truly good when everyone insists others around the table taste it. But it was Emilio’s engaging hospitality that made the night unforgettable.
Many thanks, Emilio and staff — from all six of us....
