OUTSTANDING SERVICE ! My wife and I were so happy to be back in beautiful Salerno....one of our fav places in the world. We enjoyed a wonderful 4 day vacation here 18 months ago. HARD TO GO WRONG ! Lots of amazing pizzas, pasta, gelato & cappuccinos plus incredible scenery nearby on the Amalfi Coast. This time during our 6 day stay my wife had found a fabulous 2 bed / 2 bath Airbnb on the 4th floor...thankfully it had an elevator. And being on one end of Corso Vittorio Emanuele we were close to all the action. VERY HANDY ! In fact we noticed there were 2 restaurants on the ground floor of our apartment building. On Thursday our first night in town we tried the pizzeria downstairs and it was pretty darn good. Our server Nello the boyfriend of Ilaria the co-owner suggested this restaurant right next door as a good dinner spot. AND WE DID ! On Saturday we turned up here around 7.30pm....Luigi the co-owner ( with his wife Claudia ) gave us a warm welcome. A very courteous server named Gonzalo showed us to a table in the beautiful dining room. MENU ! This was not the typical Italian pizza / pasta menu we were familiar with in Italy or back home in the USA. FIRST UP ! I chose an Italian craft beer which Gonzalo had brought out to show me at my request. He returned soon after with a chilled bottle of L'Ambrata del Brenta....an American style amber lager - 6.7% abv plus a tall stem glass. It tasted quite good ! We ran through the dinner items on the menu with Gonzalo and some thoughtful input from Luigi the owner. To kick things off we asked for some artisan bread while we decided what to order. My wife selected the Sous-Vide Suckling Pig Fillet with Myrtle & Broccoli while I decided on a Rib Eye Steak ( medium rare )....plus a side of Baked Potatoes with Skin...on Luigi's recommendation. RELAXING VIBE ! The textured walls and ceiling made us feel like we were dining inside a cave. NEXT ! Our warmed up artisan bread hit the table and tasted very good...always a nice start to a meal. AND THEN ! Our ( Second Courses ) dishes arrived courtesy of a smiling Gonzalo. Everything was cooked to perfection by talented Chef Fedele...no complaints from us. ANOTHER BEER ! This time I selected A Fravort Fresh Beer....an Italian light Lager - 4.9% abv. Gonzalo presented it to me with a tall stem glass as I requested. It tasted pretty decent for a light beer. DESSERT ! The Chocolate Caprese was endorsed by Luigi & Gonzalo so that's what we selected. And it was the perfect finish to our enjoyable dinner. We had a nice chat with Luigi and his lovely wife Claudia as we were leaving. Our friendly server Gonzalo would charm the pants off anyone....a real asset to this restaurant. INTIMATE DINING...
Read moreThe starters were really good, especially the parmigiano and the steak tartare. The tartare maybe could’ve used an egg on top, but the mix with anchovies was actually nice.
The main courses were a bit disappointing. I ordered my ribeye rare, but it came out medium, which wasn’t great. The other ribeye had a lot of tough parts that were hard to chew. Not very enjoyable, even though the flavor was good.
The beef filet was well cooked (rare, as requested) and tasted great. But the sides were a letdown: average fries (clearly frozen), an overly salty side salad, and the vegetables were just a few thin slices of eggplant with some leaves. Not tasty, and definitely not worth the price.
Speaking of that, the sides were way too expensive for what you get. Not really worth it.
Also a small detail, but I ordered a decaf coffee after the meal, and it never came. A bit disappointing, as those little things do matter.
On the bright side, the atmosphere was nice, in a cozy square with a distant view of the sea. Staff were friendly and the vibe was relaxed.
Overall, it was an okay experience. Some good points, but a few things to improve, especially the sides, the meat doneness, and the...
Read moreCosy atmosphere. When we first sat down we ordered drinks and then they came up to us and asked if we wanted water so we thought that it was included but they later charged us for that.
We ordered the salmon and the pork cutlet and thought it would be a whole dish cause it was 16 and 18 euros but that’s only what you get so we had to order side dishes. Everything on the side was so expensive. Mixed sallad for 5€ and fries also for 5€ and the rest was over 5€. We went with the fries and it was ok, tasted like normal fries. But for 5€ it was way too expensive. The salmon was good nothing ordinary, could have used some more salt and flavor to the orange sauce! Salmon was a bit raw but don’t know if it was supposed to be like that. And to be honest the pork cutlet was pretty good. It was crispy, juicy and perfectly seasoned!! Loved it sm! However I wished it came with a sauce!!! After eating it with the fries it was a bit dry. Maybe a aioli, bearnaise, red wine sauce or something would take this to an...
