In response to owner comment: Wow! The owner reaction to my negative review was suggestion I am not worth eating with pigs and that I should wash my mouth not fingers. Owner not only cannot cook but also doesn’t know how to run the restaurant and have no clue how to treat your customers. We came to eat good food and pay for it, at the end we just paid as the food was awful. The portions were too small for half of asking price! Why we didn’t speak to the owner? Maybe because no one of staff could speak any language but Italian and not every tourist speaks Italian. Perhaps if owner knew how to run restaurant she would asked why we refused free limoncello at the end - we were so disgusted that we just wanted to leave this place. One of us got bad stomach after eating “fresh” prawns. Finally, waiter brought opened wine bottle - I cannot recall such customs I other Italian restaurants. In other places there are no bathrooms but simple toilets but at least they have doors which can be locked - this is not the case in this “restaurant”. Pro tip for owner - instead of paying for fake reviews (most of reviewers don’t even have 10 contributions) they should spend money on learning what restaurant business is! This place is visited often by locals so probably they are treated differently than tourists. If you are tourist simply don’t visit this place as you can end up very disappointed.
What supposed to be nice evening out turned out to be culinary disaster. Drawn by positive reviews we made huge mistake having dinner there. Why? Firstly the portions are very small, secondly they are below average, thirdly the waiter doesn’t know what he is doing. Granny’s meatballs are three tiny meatballs barely fitting very small plate, prawns are fried without any spices and it took three hand washes to get rid of their smell from fingers, octopuses are served as 3 little portions with two olives and one cherry tomato. If you want to feel full you need to order at least 5 dishes per person. As for the service, they barely speak any language except Italian, they don’t serve parmigiano or olive oil to pasta, they serve cold wine bottle without ice bucket so it gets warm in ten minutes, they don’t serve any napkin or water with gemberoni so be prepared to have smelly fingers, the bread they serve as starter taste like it was baked week ago (and no, it is not toasted). If this is traditional Italian cuisine then I am Italian president. Owner attitude is also questionable judging from replies to other reviews. And last thing, the same dish can be served differently, the number of items can be varied so basically paying for food here you play lottery - you never know what you get at the end. Our pastas were much smaller than the ones on table next to us. Not to mention toilet which is just beside a place where they prepare drinks. Awful place pretending to...

Preface: US visitor in Salerno for a couple days
This restaurant was recommended to us by our rental host- it did not disappoint. This is ran by a husband and wife - seems like the wife did the cooking, and the husband was the waiter- I believe his name was Carlo- super friendly and seemed to be a local superstar as he knew every patron there and the pedestrians walking by- including a street saxophone performer who stopped by and serenaded the patrons. This restaurant is tucked away in a quieter street in historic Salerno, which added to the charming ambiance.
This restaurant also has a rotating menu, and their actual menus are hand-written for the day- this was a big plus for me since sometimes restaurants tend to offer similar items, so I knew to expect something different.
My only knock is that they had ran out of 2 items (octopus and fish) on the menu that I initially wanted to order, but understandably so since we did come later in the night, and seems like everything used here is fresh and prepped from the morning to last until it runs out.
What we ordered (everything was really good- from flavor to texture): Pasta alla Carbonara Pasta alla Nerona Eggplant Parmigiana Pasta with clams Classic Meatballs (the sauce was amazing)
I’m sure anything will be good from whatever menu they decide.
We will be returning to this restaurant once we get...
Read moreThis place doesn't seem to like foreigners, the service was awful. When arriving the waiters barely greated us, we where placed at a table and waited several minutes to even get a menu, even though the waiters didn't seem to have too much to do. When we finally got the menu we felt invisible again, everyone and everything else was more important than us, everyone else was served and the waiter even started cleaning instead of taking our order, we decided to leave without placing an order so can't say anything about the food.
Update: When we visited there was no power failure, the lamp at our table was turned on when we were seated, and it was no issue to serve other guests. We had eye contact with the waiter who still just walked past us. And guests arriving later than us even got to order before we...
