The food was good, some things were really nice. So overall the food was good but not amazing. I'd rather eat somewhere else where the food is great and a lot cheaper. We ordered a five course menu with wine pairing. The first wine arrived on time, right before our first meal. It was really nice. The second wine arrived at the same time as the second course. After that a group of what looked to be regular guests sat down next to us and after that we didn't see the sommelier anymore. The third wine arrived when we were halfway through our third course. The fourth wine arrived after we've finished our fourth course. We got the fifth course without wine. After that we were awkwardly waited for something to happen but for over half an hour nothing happened. Plates weren't cleared, nobody checked in on us, and we didn't get a fifth wine. Eventually we waved to the waitress and told her we didn't get a wine with our last course. She came back with Limoncello. As the dinner seemed to be finished after that we asked for the check. Upon receiving the check we expressed that we weren't happy with the missing glass of wine from the wine pairing. The waitress disappeared and came back with the sommelier who was carrying four bottles of wine, explaining to us which wines we got. So we said we had a five course dinner, with four wines and that we weren't happy about it. They explained we got limoncello as a fifth 'wine'. But we weren't happy with that substitute. Their attitude towards us got really unpleasant and they didn't offer us anything to compensate. We paid the check and left.
If I had the choice I would rather go somewhere else, especially since it's...
Read moreWe booked Hydra after seeing it in Michelin Selected list, but the dinner was a disappointing one.
The dishes we tried had interesting combinations, but they didn't work out well: carbonara foam + cocoa mullet + red fruits pork + apple amberjack + some cookie base risotto + sea weed + bottarga
They do look nice and interesting on paper, but when we tasted them they just didn't make sense. The flavours didn't elevate each other.
Both pieces of fish (amberjack and mullet), and even the pork had a foul smell as well. They should be fresh, but maybe something is off about the marination / storage / cooking - I can only speculate, but it left us with a sense of discomfort. I had some digestional issues that night but it's hard to be certain that it was linked to this dinner.
The textures are rich: cheese in foam, fish + crunchy base etc. Presentation was top notch for every single dish, we were actually most impressed by the bread plate. Risotto was cooked to perfection. We didn't see any faults in the service either, and the atmosphere was good enough.
In summary, it seems the chef wanted to came up with interesting flavour combinations, with a rich mixture of textures and amazing presentation. I believe he delivered in all of these, except the most important one: flavour, therefore we didn't leave the...
Read moreWe went there to eat because when we are on holiday we are real foodies. So after reading the reviews and seeing the photos we made a reservation. First look when we came inside: WOW beautiful place! The food was not bad, but after the food, I wanted to order a cappuccino. I KNOW - in Italy this is not common, but we are from belgium and here this is very normal. And it’s the customer who pays your bills, right? After I ordered, the waiter went to the table next to us to tell them I’ve ordered a capp and they started to laugh very loud, we could hear them talking and laughing about us for the next 15min. I work in a restaurant in Belgium with a lot of tourists, and yes sometimes they might order something I find strange, but I would néver make fun of them while they can hear it. I felt very bad after this and just wanted to go. Again, I understand in Italy people never order this, but to make fun of us like that while we were sitting right there, was very mean and arrogant. This ruined the whole...
