It’s hard to get a bad place to eat in Italy so I’ll say this place was just average. It was recommended by our airbnb host which is strange because they are normally very good at giving out great places. We ordered the caprese salad for appetizer and it was good but nothing special. Same thing about the wine, good but nothing special. Our service was actually very good, multiple people waited on us. The food was just ok, certainly not bad but definitely not great. I ordered the risotto with crab and salmon. There is no crab in it, just crab flavor but it was creamy and good and VERY hot (temperature) so it definitely wasn’t sitting out for long. My dining partners ordered the pasta with pumpkin flowers and shrimp which was good and the swordfish with peppers. I will say, the swordfish was cooked excellently and was very tender and juicy, hard to do with swordfish. I would recommend that dish alone. The meal ended with a free shot of limoncello and it was smooth and sweet. The atmosphere is in an alley with painted murals, but people walk by very close sometimes with their dogs so it’s a little strange. Also, if someone is smoking it is very obvious as there is nowhere for the smoke to go really. Overall, not a bad meal but not great. I wouldn’t return again because there are so many other great restaurants to try in Salerno.

My wife and I ate here 2 times while in Salerno, once for dinner and we then returned for lunch as we enjoyed the restaurant so much. This is a family run restaurant and the food and service were both very good. We shared a burrata salad for dinner which was fantastic. The cheese was very good and seemed very very fresh. I had pasta with swordfish and that was also great. The sauce was very light and delicate and I had to use bread to get every drop at the end as I liked it so much. All the food is simple good ingredients well prepared. At lunch we shared swordfish and a salad. Unfortunately they were out of the burrata the next day, but the salad we shared was still good. Each day we had wine, once a bottle and once just a glass, all enjoyable. Lemoncello at dinner and meloncello at lunch were served at the end of the meal. I usually am not a big fan of lemoncello, but this was homemade and was the best I have had. Service was fast and friendly. Nonna was at the restaurant both days and was fun to talk with. We enjoyed the food and service here very much. A much more authentic dining experience in Italy than tourist traps. The restaurant is small and reservations are recommended.

I'm really shocked at how high a rating this place has, though I blame myself for not reading through the one-star reviews. This is some of the worst food I've eaten over several trips to Italy. Absolutely no flavor, and the quality of the ingredients was poor. Food: The only good bite we had was the burrata, which of course is not made in house. Even the salad under it wasn't seasoned/dressed. We took the risotto with salmon and the pasta with swordfish and green pepper. The risotto tasted mostly like cream and even adding salt didn't help. I couldn't finish the plate. The swordfish was just okay. Pasta was fine, but the sauce was just oil (not even good quality olive oil) and some bland green peppers. Everything is underseasoned. We were initially happy at the amount of wine we were given when we ordered glasses of the white wine, but it was not good. Just finishing the wine was a struggle. Service: Not the friendliest. Not much to be said. Neither terrible nor amazing service, just extremely impersonal. We felt we were ripped off for poor quality food and mediocre service. Clearly a place that has little respect for customers and for Italian food. I feel bad for the tourists who come here thinking they've received authentic, quality food. This is far from it. Save your money and go elsewhere - this is a tourist trap to be avoided. I have had phenomenal food during a previous visit to Salerno for far less money. I very, very rarely leave a one star review and try to be as balanced as possible, but I feel this was warranted given how overpriced everything was and how much difficulty I'm having finding anything positive to say about this place.

The restaurant felt very intimate for my partner and I as it’s tucked within an alleyway. The first time we went he had spaghetti with clams and I had the special which was a pistachio mussel and pecorino based pasta dish. That pasta was the best meal we had in the entire two weeks we spent throughout Italy ranging from positano, capri, Amalfi, Rome and Venice. It was so delicious we had to return twice on our last night in Salerno. My family is from Salerno and you could feel the hospitality and friendliness. I’m shocked by other reviews which state otherwise and think maybe it had more to do with the reviewer than this restaurant. On our last visit I asked the waitress how the meal was cooked because it is so delicious and I am a Seattle based chef who would love to recreate it. She then asked the kitchen whose chef invited me back to view how the meal was prepared. It was such a special treat and a highlight from our trip to Italy and I am eternally grateful for the staff and chef at this Osteria. Gracie Millie!

September 23, 2023 Not as "amazing" as many reviews imply! I know many have ranted about this place but honestly folks...The food is just ok, nothing to write home about! The service is substandard, the atmosphere...can it get any cheesier? The setting is in an alley way, checkered tablecloths, waitresses who just rush you along to clear the table for the next customers. This place is soooo cheesy I expect the Mario Bros. to come dancing down the hallway singing " Che La Luna Mezzo Mare" My son had the pasta and prawns which he ate but was not overwhelmed. My husband and I had the shrimp antipasto, not impressed. ...we ended up here by mistake and we shall NEVER forget it. If you're into the Italian tourist trap restaurant with all the fixings, this is for you complete with the music. We prefer a more authentic local Italian experience and there were many to be had with better atmosphere and at better prices.

From the reviews, I was expecting this place to be one of the best spots we were going to eat at in Salerno. It’s such a cute spot, it’s tucked in an alleyway and there are beautiful murals on the walls. I wish i had liked it better but I thought my pasta dish was awful and the service was appalling. Our server was so unwelcoming and short with us, it was such a stark difference to everyone we encountered in Italy. My partner ordered his dish which was decently good. he choose the shrimp special pasta but was also $25 and included around 7 shrimp. It seemed steep compared to other restaurants we went to during our stay in Salerno and just wasn’t at all what I was expecting after seeing this spot come so highly recommended.
