Locanda Di Sant'Agostino Osteria — Restaurant in San Gimignano

Went here for dinner. It was very busy and the reviews were great so we thought it must be great. The service was very slow, yes they were busy but they shouldn't have so many tables if they can't handle it. We weren't even offered any water when we sat down, took over 10mins before we were greeted by someone. Ordered the Tuscan soup and caprese salad to start. The soup was excellent, but the caprese salad was disappointing. For the mains, the truffle pasta was awful - over cooked pasta with literally 3 shavings of truffle, nothing like the pictures you see in the reviews. The second main was the wrong order, so they said they'll send the correct one. 15 mins later, still no main. Ended up leaving without a second main and didn't finish the one we did have as it wasn't good. Felt sorry for the waiters as they were literally running around trying to keep up I would give it 1 star if it wasn't...

Brilliant waiters dealing with decidedly average food. When you tip make sure you remember the waiters did no wrong! Pricey bland cuisine. Eg. Pleasant cold pea, ginger and squid soup needed way more ginger and a slice of lemon to bring out the flavours. Cold prawn and celeriac and fruit starter was heavy on buttered prawns light on flavour in the pureed veg and fruit. More salt less butter needed. Pici pasta and mussels lacked excitement, so had to add pepper (which disappointedly was pre-ground not from a mill). Nice to have had more sauce and more OPEN mussels. Inside it’s really gorgeous, but staff is seriously rude. As we came in they immediately acted annoyed, and the older lady was really rude when I took a photo of the gorgeous murals, moaning away that I should ask for permission (the place was empty and I wasn’t on the way). Such a shame, I didn’t react just because it looks like she’s hating being there and I didn’t want to make it worse. It looks like she gives a hard time to the younger staff member too, which is not nice of her. Why working in a cafe if you hate it that much? Maybe it’s time to find a different job!
