Ristorante da Michele — Restaurant in Santa Margherita Ligure

When we arrived the staff was friendly and accommodating, unfortunately that was the best part of the evening. We were shown a table on the outside of the group of tables that was basically placed in the sidewalk away from the others. I ordered the grilled filet which was so tough that half the steak was uneatable- the rest wasn’t much better. The potatoes were very good I will admit. Others in the party had the veal, which was good, but the ravioli too was sub standard with the taste of dirt. No one ever came back to the table to check on how the food was or to take additional drink orders. When we received the bill there was a charge of €7.50 added for something we didn’t order- when I asked what it was, the elderly lady pointed to the table cloth so apparently they charge a separate fee to the customer to have a tablecloth. I did speak with one other staff member that spoke English and shared my lack of satisfaction with the meal, it was shrugged off. We arrived at the restaurant pretty late around 10:30pm. The lady that greeted us at the door was very rude and sat us down at the table in a rushed way. Having just handed us the menus she came back to the table within 2 minutes and was rushing us to order without any pre warning of the kitchen closing prior to serving us. She was very impatient, sour attitude, short tempered and dismissive of when we’re responding to her. Whenever we politely asked a question or attempted to get a waiters attention they either ignored us or came over acting as if we were an inconvenience. The food was very average, pretty bland. But the biggest let down was how extremely rude the staff were, it was quite shocking. No customers should be treated this way, regardless of what time during the service period it is. One of the worst restaurant experiences we’ve had in Italy. Do not go here as you’ll have a terrible experience. After I had finished my meal with still wine in my glass, while my boyfriend still were eating, I wanted to use the restroom. I walked up to use it, and was refused to use it in an absurdly rude way. All they say is “no, you can’t use it, we’re closed”

I explained how me and my boyfriend are currently having lunch at the restaurant with remaining food on the plate and wine, with no success.
