Chiesa di Santa Margherita — Attraction in Camogli

The Basilica of Santa Margherita is dedicated to Saint Margaret of Antioch. Entrance to the basilica is free, and the church is open daily. Construction of the current church began in 1658 on the foundations of an earlier, 13th-century chapel or church. The architectural design is attributed to Giovanni Battista Ghiso (or G. B. Ghisio), a significant figure in Ligurian Baroque. During construction and subsequent adaptations, the façade's orientation was changed. In the 18th century, a new bell tower (campanile) was added to the façade—designed by Carlo Orsolino (1750)—and alterations were made to the façade. The old stone bell tower was demolished in 1786.

Architecture Style: Ligurian Baroque. Plan: Latin cross church, three naves separated by columns, with a dome above the intersection of the cross's arms.

The façade: divided into three sections, with a double order of columns (binate columns), stucco decorations and sculptures, including depictions of the apostles Peter and Paul in niches on the sides. Reliefs are incorporated above the side façade or side elements, such as the scene "The Calling of St. Peter" in an octagonal field above the side portal.

Interior: three naves, a dome, and richly decorated decorative details. Relics of Saint Margaret are present: urns containing her remains and (from 1724) also the "precious blood" (sangue prezioso).

La piazza e circondata da palazzi abbelliti dalle decorazioni di un grande decoratore come Giovanni Franceschetti, la Basilica di Santa Margherita Ligure anche detta della Rosa custodisce le spoglie della Santa, occorre chiedere per vedere un loculo antichissimo fatto di marmo dove riposa e posto dai venerandi dopo una lunga traversia e giunta a Genova venne trasportata nella Basilica, e strano ma confesso che abbiamo ricevuto da essa un miracolo; la mia compagna aveva perso la memoria, sentiva e vedeva cose allucinanti e le chiesi di entrare in Basilica e farsi benedire e lei accettò, all'ora il Parroco era Luciano Smirni e lei si confessò mentre aspettavo fuori e dopo qualche minuto usciva come se nulla fosse successo, ricordava bene chi era e non sentiva voci... ne vedeva persone immaginarie... un miracolo? Un tempo per riflettere? Chi può dirlo? E certo però che la mia compagna minuti prima era allucinata e minuti dopo stava benissimo! E comunque un posto fantastico con pitture del 6/700 ligure, marmi, decorazioni e intarsi con ori e gemme, e le sculture di ottima fattura e un organo con le sue colonne e una cupula rendono un luogo magico e misterioso, da visitare sicuramente. Anche perchè si racconta che Napoleone inebriato se ne fosse innamorato e la sua guarnigione era stanziata laddove si trovano adesso i padri Gesualdi in piazza San Bernardo. Величественная католическая Церковь. В ковчеге - часть мощей (косточка) и часть личных вещей святой мученицы Маргариты (Марины) Римской. Это очень значимая для христиан реликвия. Находится в правом нефе в посеребеюренном резном ковчеге под стеклом. Сверху богато украшенный каскад из посеребренных цветов, подсвечников. Всё это убранство венчает серебряная статуя св Маргариты с пальмовой ветвью в руке. Эта вся красота подсвечивается небольшими лампочками и расположена на носилках. В праздники святую Маргариту на этих носилках торжественно несут по улицам города. Интерьер церкви сделан с хорошим вкусом. Множество хрустальных люстр, позолота, мрамор разных цветов. Обязательно рекомендую посетить это духовное и красивое во всех...
