The cafe itself is nice enough, and located on a quiet street - however the service was absolutely atrocious. The woman working there was impossibly rude to us more than once. When we arrived we wanted to confirm there was a toilet before sitting to have drinks - to which she very rudely informed us it was only for customer, which I totally respect, but could of been said politely. I would have over looked this, but following this while we went to sit outside for our drinks, and I sat myself at a table in the shade - which was for four people - but given there was only one customer and 8 empty tables, and no tables for two in the shade, makes sense to sit there in the afternoon heat. She then marched over to tell us this is a table for four and we are not a four - I kindly replied I needed to sit out of the sun, and assumed the (non)issue was resolved. She then came back over several minutes later asking where we were from, and snarkily saying “oh and is it allowed to sit wherever you like in your country?! That not how it works here”. We visit Italy every summer, and have for many years, and that is absolutely not the case. Earlier today even, we visited a cafe and they were more than happy for guests to seat themselves where they preferred. And more to the point, if that is the policy at this specific place, you speak to your customers with kindness and respect. We both felt incredibly upset and uncomfortable by the interaction and the way we were spoken to, and as such cannot...
Read moreWhat I liked most about this place is that, from the second I walked in, I felt welcome.
I'm a big pasta fan and tried several of the dishes; my favorite was the carbonara, but the pasta with pesto was also a guaranteed hit. I also recommend the melon + mozzarella appetizer option, if it's available; it's not the usual combination (that would be ham + melon, which can also be found here), but it's tasty and light, perfect for summer. If you're just starting out the day, you might grab a croissant (or the marvelous braided pastry with pecan topping whose name I can never recall). In general the ratio of price to portion size here is great and probably the best I found in Siena. In my opinion, it's rare to find a solid main dish for less than 10 euro; here, you can do that, and you have a few options at that.
The environment is one where both locals and tourists can find a spot to relax, to chat, to refresh, to gather, to sit with a book and watch the world go by outside. Siena has a lot of bars and restaurants, but this is one I'll always remember. If you're in town, make this one of your stops for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, or...
Read moreThe service in this place is terrible. We set down, the waitress came and pushed us to order drinks, than gave us the food menu. After the drinks arrived, we saw there was no vegan option and we had a friend that is vegan in our group. We asked the waitress if it was possible to cook some pasta with pasta with pomodoro sauce and she said they don’t do any changes to the menu and suggested my friend had A BOLOGNAISE!! 😱😱😱. We explained that she didn’t eat meet and she said we could have drinks and leave, then 10 minutes later she came back saying we had to leave the table cause she could not have us there just having drinks. They were not even busy and there were other free tables. Finally, she said it was OUR FAULT for not looking at the menu before seating. That is when we lost it, just paid our drinks and left. I’m not giving my money to people that are disrespectful and unconsidered. Don’t recommend at all, I understand they have their policies, but they could have done all that in a much more...
