Trattoria Spizzuliamu — Restaurant in Syracuse

I came here with a friend, and we both ordered the fillet with green peppercorn sauce. Unfortunately, both steaks were cooked the same way — not seared on the outside as a proper steak should be, but rather looking and tasting more like the sliced, boiled meat you might get in a school cafeteria, with no crust and very little flavor.

When we mentioned this to the waiter, the only response we got was, "Nobody has ever complained about our steak before", "Next time it will be better", and that there was no butter in the kitchen — as if that excused the lack of proper cooking. There was no apology, no offer to replace the dish, and the full price remained on the bill.

This was extremely disappointing — not only because of the poor quality of the steaks, but also because of the way the complaint was handled. Good customer service means addressing a guest’s concern on the spot, not just promising to do better...

We chose this restaurant based on the reviews and what was available that night. The restaurant is well organized and the tables and seats were fine. We only ordered main dishes, but the dishes did not meet the expectations. The swordfish was rather bland, the calamari’s portion was not enough (for an averages sized adult), was bland and chewy as well. The mixed fish grill was decent, but still rather bland. We ordered potato’s as a side dish, but we’re already cold when the main dishes came. On top of that, as one of us was still finishing her dish, the waiters already took away the other finished plates and glasses, which was rude in my eyes. Overall the price of the food does not match with the quality, the waiters were not friendly to us, and the toilets look like they are from last century. The expectations we had from other reviews did not match...

Sardines were ok nothing special, seafood spaghetti was reasonable. House wine was going OK until my wife almost swallowed and choked on what initially looked like squid cartilage but then turned out to be an inch of plastic gauze. She managed only to partly spew the red wine on her top and me. Left a bad taste to our experience to say the least. Waiter was dismissive of the issue. Could have shown a little goodwill by removing the 2,50 x2 cover charges or something but it was explained to me that she wasn't dead and that anything could drop out the sky and land in a drink, and not be their problem. Basically they don't need to care as people will still come though the door. There are other choices out there and in my opinion based on that experience I'd definitely recommend...
