What an absolute pleaure to have met Claudia, Carmello, Kristina and Giovanni during our recent month in Ortigia. They instantly made us feel welcome, and it wasn't long before we were there for dinner every third night. The food was fresh, authentically Sicilian and absolute value for money. Claudia and Kristina work the floor with skill, engaging with clients with fun and humour, making everyone in their care, feel special. While the inside restaurant space does not look out onto the main street, out to greenery, water or architectural splendour, all travellers to Ortigia should walk in off the street and take a seat. There is lots to be gained from getting off the bustling main street and spend an evening with the most beautiful locals you could ever meet. I can't wait to return. The seafood pastas, the fresh fish, perfectly cooked pizzas, the mouth watering desserts, along with the selection of wines, are further reasons to make the journey here. Read moreCheck reviews first. I'm an Englishman but love traditional pizza. I have been a pizza chef in 3 restaurants in 15 years of my catering career. The wood stove is running too hot. The dough was under proved. The crust was not Risen. So either the yeast is dead or it's only been rising for 30mins not 3 hours. And so it was like cookie dough in the centre. I wasn't going to leave a negative review. As these mistakes happen. But after seeing other people being talked back to for their reviews. I realise the chef is unable to take criticism has an answer for everything and believes anything he cooks is amazing. This is the attitude of a terrible chef who will never improve.. If you have anything to say sir I take it as a challenge and I will be their tomorrow. And we will cook it out and let the public decide. You hear me sir. If you wish to learn I will show you how to make good pizza but if you cannot listen to your customers you will never be the amazing chef you...
Read moreNo matter who will tell you that you should make a reservation at a restaurant in ortigia (and that applies to any restaurant), NEVER do so because you will lose the chance to roam around and choose the reataurant location you like best. It's usually not so crowded that you won't find a good spot to where to enjoy decent food.
That said, this place was ok, nothing stellar or incredibly memorable although the polpo came close. The cozze (those without tomato sauce) won't be cooked in wine so expect a lighter and less flavorful than usual. Pasta is ok, Pizza too, but again nothing stunning although the dough is done right.
Would I go back? Probably not. I say that not due to a bad esperience, but rather because there are several more enjoyable places (as far as location is concerned at the very least) that a next time I would just take a lazy stroll around ortigia to select a more pleasant location... But always checking ratings...
