We wanted to have a cofee and some light lunch, while wandering the streets of Taormina. Mediterraneo Cafe looked great, there was a nice atmosphere and menu set for our needs. We greeted the lady behind the bar and chose the table, she brought us the menu. We picked our items pretty fast but then we noticed there is only one bartender for the whole bar, we waited for 15 minutes, and thats where we started hesitating, because we had a bus to catch in an hour. After that time lady came out from behind the bar with two beers, water and two cokes, thats what she was doing that whole time... after that she took orders from another waiting tables and came to us, we started with drinks and asked for a tea, she told us no, then we changed and asked for a coffee which one would assume there definitely must be, as the place is provocatively calling itself Café. She told us no, and explained that we can only order alcoholic drinks, which is logicall as they will make 5 times more money on drink than on coffee, but doing that while having half empty bar is embarrassing. I should also mention that we could clearly see prepared, enlighted espresso machine behind the bar. She didn't asked us for food and we also lost apetite to order anything, but if she would be so greedy she would learn that we wanted to order crepes for another 25 eur. At that point we wasted 20 minutes and left for next door. Also while leaving we anoticed another couple which came same time as we did, they were siting outside and leaving quite furiously because nobody came to take an order from them for the whole time. As I have seen some of the replies from the owner to negative reviews I suggest him he can save his arrogant crap for himself, hopefully the place will close soon and somebody with experiences in the hospitality...
Read moreCheaters It seems I am not the only one who had this bad experience. Usually when you are in places like Taormina you need to use a toilet at some point and always the strategy is to find a place (coffee bar) to grab a coffee or a water.. this is what I did, I entered this Cafe, then went straight to the toilet and when I exited I was planning to get a coffee or something. While exiting the toilet two woman came violently in front of me stopping my way and speaking Italian with a very rude and disrespectful way. Then before I say anything they asked me to buy a beer or wine, when I said no i don’t want a wine or any alcoholic then they asked me to pay money with cash and then I had to make negotiations for the amount. They asked me 10 euros for the toilet I said no I won’t pay anything and they threaten me to call the police. My wasted time didn’t really worth the money and I had to pay the amount or they call the mafia. We were two families and expect to receive many 1-star reviews. Your rate should go to 1-star. You are the worst business in Taormina
Update: I appreciate your lengthy and aggressive response. It perfectly illustrates the disrespectful behavior we experienced at your cafe. Your claim that the incident was 'caused solely by my incorrect approach' is simply an attempt to justify your unprofessional conduct. No one should be extorted for using a restroom after intending to purchase a drink. Your actions and response speak for themselves and confirm the negative experiences many others have shared. Your response is both unprofessional and a confirmation of the aggressive and disrespectful behavior we experienced. Future...
Read moreCosy vibes and nice music which definitely lured us in, but we ordered two cocktails, one was from the menu and for mine I said would you be able to do a spicy margarita. They said of course, we've got the best bar man... What arrived was a cucumber slush with black peppercorns. When the waiter asked if everything was satisfactory after we had a couple of sips I said at that point 'sorry but the margarita isn't really a margarita and it's not spicy it needs a red chili pepper, this tastes like cucumber and black pepper'. He just walked away sheepishly.
When my parter went to pay, despite the feedback (and no attempt to rectify or replace the drink which was blatantly not a margarita) he charged us 16 Euro for that drink that we already told him wasn't right and that i didn't even finish 😂 We paid, but when I reiterated that it was not a margarita he doubled down and said 'this is a classic margarita'... which tells you all you need to know because i've never had cucumber or black pepper in a classic margarita so someone has no business making them.
When I asked for a spicy margarita in the first place all that needed to be said was 'sorry we don't have the ingredients for that, would you like to choose something else'. There would have been no problem. Also if someone says that something isn't right at the beginning of their drink, good customer service would be to offer you something else instead.
It was a shame because it seemed like a nice place and had this been handled differently we would have gladly stayed for a few more drinks to enjoy the music and our lovely window seat.
Go to Daiquiri instead if you want nice cocktails and...
