We visited end of May 2024. Located in a picturesque street overlooking the Tuscan valley, the restaurant offers outdoor seating for breathtaking views as well as indoor seating in a very elegant vintage setting.
The service was impeccable and the food was delicious. The highlight of our visit was the bar where we tried one of their specialty cocktails - Leone nel Basilico. The bartender walked us through the story behind the drink, which was invented by their founder, and explained how to consume it. You first take a sip of the drink, where it tastes sweet. Then you chew on and swallow a flower (forgot the name) – within a minute, you feel a slight tinkling in your mouth. Now you sip on the drink again, and it tastes salty in a refreshing way. We’ve never experienced anything like that before.
Our experience at Idyllium was so captivating that we eagerly look forward to the day we can return to Pienza and check out Idyllium once again. For anyone seeking a culinary adventure in Pienza with breathtaking views, I cannot recommend Idyllium highly enough. It promises an experience that delights...
Read moreMy wife and I visited this swanky (but not stuffy) bar during our evening in Pienza. We actually happened upon the bar by accident. We were walking around the city and saw a sign that pointed us downward towards some stairs that lead to this place. If you find the laterns around the stone shape that appears to be a well of sorts (see picture), just go down and you find the place. Upon approaching, we heard the staff singing and so we knew this would be a fun place to visit! Sure enough it was great. The staff were comical and vibrant. We ordered a glass of the Nobile Montipulciano and took a seat in the back of the bar where you can find an amazing room full of hand selected decor and art. Check out the cardboard art!! Unreal! We sat in vintage leather chairs (very comfortable), drank our wine, and listened to a great variety of music fitting for the atmosphere of this place. We did not order food, however they do offer a sufficient amount of options should you need it. Overall it was an unforgettable experience in Pienza! Highly...
Read moreThis bar is just a disappointment ! Only the view is wonderful, but that's not the bar's fault. We have been coming to the bar for 5 years and have always been delighted. This time (end September) we felt like we were in a tourist trap. It is a standard in Italy to have a small snack or peanuts and chips with your drink before going out to eat with your aperitif in the evening. Not so in IDYLLIUM! Apart from the fact that the prices have been outrageously expensive since last year, the drinks were also bad and fill with the gold of the bartender (ice) So the drinks became immediately just watery and too cold. Negroni, Spritz, Prosecco, beer - prices higher than in Florence at the cathedral and a very bad service. Never again! I recommend going around the church close to Via Amore. A lovely small Italian bar run by a very nice Italian woman who still understands the subject of running a bar in Italy. The view is the same but service is just great. The Negroni as it should be and there was a small bite. viva...
