Where to start?

We arrived before 13h, ordered 2 antipasti and 5 pastas. They served the antipasti fairly quickly quickly, but completely forgot the pastas and the drinks. I reminded them to get us the drinks 20 minutes later, but they didn’t get us the food.

We never thought they would forget to cook our pastas since they had served us the antipasti. 45 minutes later we asked the manager if they had forgot our food. He asks us to confirm our dishes. We repeated the initial order and sure enough, we get our food 20 minutes later meaning that we waited for our food for more than 1 hour with absolutely no apologies, only rude jokes and offensive behaviour when they clearly had forgotten about us.

The tagliolini with lobster was promising, specially when you see that it costs 30€. Unfortunately, it does not live up to the expectations. The plate contains half of a lobster that is basically boiled and the tagliolini sits underneath a mountain of heavy cream. Pure cream flavour and nothing else. Disappointing to say the least.

The pasta alle Sarde had no sardines and La Griccia should have Guancialle, but had pancetta instead and was bland.

All in all, it is not what you expect when the average price is above 20 euros per plate and the we spent more than 40 euros per person.

Francesco and his team (including his delightful parents) delivered such a personal and genuine touch to the evening! The restaurant was vibrant, welcoming and warm (even with Covid transparent protection screens that actually added intimacy and a strong feeling of safety). There were lots of fascinating theatrical pieces and artwork on the walls. Beige-coloured crisp table linen and napkins added elegance and a touch of class.

Descriverei l'esperienza brevemente come un tuffo nel passato, precisamente negli anni 80, come mi ha sentito dire il cameriere esprimendo probabilmente la sua disapprovazione facendo la sua battuta passivo aggressiva quando ho chiesto il sorbetto. Ma nella realtà, capisco e mi scuso che sia stata fraintesa, l'esperienza mi è piaciuta proprio per questa ragione. Personale e servizio buoni, ambiente carino che veramente da questa impressione di tornare 40 anni indietro. Mi aspettavo che jerry cala uscisse da un momento all'altro dall'altra sala. Detto questo. Per quanto mi sono trovato bene da un punto di vista di ambiente e servizio, mi spiace dire che il cibo veramente fa pena, e non tanto in fattore assoluto perche per un ristorante alla buona ci sta, ma per quanto si paga questa qualità. A detta dei mei genitori che hanno 80 anni e andavano in questo ristorante un secolo fa, era uno dei ristoranti migliori di varese... probabilmente per lo standard della cucina del tempo (ecco perche anni 80). Non entro in dettaglio di antipasto perche ho gia scritto troppo (gli gnocchetti non male, ma superpeezzati in ogni caso), ma per quanto mi ha fatto ridereb ed è geniale dire che "i nostri tagliolini all'astice sono alla francese e contengono lattosio" al posto di "i tagliolini sono panna e astice", io con solo 3 forchettate finali dal piatto della persona che era li con me, sono passato da quasi pieno a troppo pieno. Lei penso stia ancora digerendo adesso sto mattone e non è stata, diciamo, benone la scorsa notte. Ottima strategia di vendita, ma davvero un rinomato posto di varese usa ancora 30kg di panna per i tagliolini con l'astice? Si commenta da solo. Ancora, un peccato perche per il resto...
