For those seeking a genuine experience of Venetian culinary culture, Cantine del Vino già Schiavi offers an outstanding introduction to cicchetti, the region’s traditional small plates. Priced at merely €1.50 each, these meticulously prepared bites are not only economically accessible but also exhibit a high level of creativity and flavour. The selection is extensive, featuring well-considered and inventive combinations that distinguish themselves from more conventional offerings found elsewhere.

In addition to its culinary appeal, the establishment functions as a wine shop, providing an excellent selection of regional wines and variations of Aperol Spritz. Whether one prefers a traditional option or a more contemporary interpretation, the beverage menu caters to a wide range of preferences.

This venue is particularly well-suited for a light midday meal, a pre-dinner appetiser, or an informal social gathering. Seating is limited, with only a few stools available indoors, and patrons typically stand while enjoying their food, either within the establishment or beside the adjacent canal. Although the venue can become quite busy during peak hours due to its popularity among both locals and visitors, off-peak periods offer a more relaxed and convivial environment.

Cantine del Vino già Schiavi combines authenticity, affordability, and culinary ingenuity, making it a noteworthy destination for those wishing to engage with the local gastronomic tradition in an informal yet high-quality setting. It comes highly...

One of those places that looks like it’s been there forever — and hopefully never changes. Cantina del Vino già Schiavi is charming, bustling, and full of locals who will silently judge you if you call cicchetti “tapas.” (Don’t do it. Just don’t. You might get politely escorted to the nearest canal.)

The assortment is massive: little bites with creamy cod, truffle speck, gorgonzola madness, and other unholy-yet-glorious combinations. Grab a few, order wine (don’t overthink it — just point and drink), and settle wherever you can squeeze in. We ended up sharing a tiny table wedged between shelves of dusty wine bottles and two chatty Dutch travellers. It was chaotic. And perfect.

The place hums with energy — locals debating, glasses clinking, and the occasional loud “salute” that makes you wonder if you’ve accidentally joined a secret club. It’s messy, a little chaotic, and totally alive.

Affordable by Venetian standards. Tasty enough to knock one sock off, maybe two if you pair wisely. Also, a solid reminder that sometimes the best meals aren’t about fancy plating — they’re about wine-soaked laughter and elbow room the size...

This is the place to be for great Cicchetti (Venetian Tapas). The price point is fantastic for what you get and the tapas are very tasty. For about 20 Euros we got 6 tapas and 2 Aperol Spritz. They have a wide selection of tapas so if you're looking for something light to eat or a pre-snacks with a drink before dinner then I recommend coming here.

Service is no nonsense, place your order and move along because there are a lot of people moving through. So if you're the type that's looking for service with a smile or chatting them up, don't come here.

Just a heads up - do not expect any kind of seating. This is a stand around and socialize with friends or stand/sit outside by the canal and enjoy your snacks and drinks. Just watch it for seagulls. They are very...
