What a lovely gem hidden up (more!) steep steps from the Sentiero Azzuro trail. Today my husband & I were able to pop in just as they opened (it says 11:30 but kitchen doesn’t actually open until 12:00), and we were able to have a beautiful lunch without reservations. The menu was very limited and seasonal. We chose the grilled fish of the day, which was actually an assortment of fish (swordfish, bream, eel) with grilled vegetables, and all was incredibly fresh and delicious. We also started with a plate of the pasta of the day, which was trofie with skate. That was excellent, the pasta was perfectly cooked and the light tomato sauce was very flavourful. The serving was rather large, easily a meal on its own, not your average primi size.
Price was €70 for one primi, two secondi, and one bottle of water. A little steep but truly excellent food with gorgeous views.
I docked a star because the atmosphere and meal were quickly tarnished by an influx of flies and bees. We couldn’t sit peacefully without something landing on our nose, in the food, just everywhere, swarming. I suppose this happens when there’s a lack of breeze further uphill like this, but we quickly wrapped up our meal and left. Sorry we couldn’t stay for dessert or...
Read moreWhat a wonderful experience we had, from beginning to end! We made the mistake of not making a reservation. MAKE A RESERVATION by calling the restaurant. Their kitchen is very small, and they may run out of options. However, they sat us because we walked from the center of Corniglia up a steep and winding hill (22 minutes) to arrive at the restaurant. They asked us to be patient as they had limited options due to their small kitchen and business model. We ordered the fried anchovies and crispy veggies (zucchini and eggplant) and it was delicious. We also ordered the homemade short pasta with tuna, capers, tomatoes, and onions. Wow! We both used our bread to dip in the sauce and eat up every morsel. For dessert, we split the dark chocolate cheesecake. It was perfect. Even my husband who isn't a dessert fanatic, like me, loved it. Because of their kindness and the unique and special experience of the evening, I bought a T-shirt which might end up being my favorite souvenir from Cinque Terre. In short, we were treated so well here, and the food was simply divine. You...
Read moreMonica and her husband really have a fantastic thing going with this restaurant. The food is really yummy and all the fish is caught fresh daily and the vegetables come from the garden. The view is amazing and service attentive; plus the prices are reasonable for what you get.
If you are apprehensive about the walk, don’t be. It is about 15 minutes from Corniglia and not to challenging. Wear proper clothes and you should be all set :)
I also highly recommend inquiring about their boat service. They offer a really unique offering as your captain is also a local fisherman, and really knows a lot about/cares for the area. Supporting the boat service allows them to fish less and put less stress on the...
