Honestly, I really wanted to love this place. I’m vegan and was thrilled to see a vegan restaurant in Tuscany, particularly considering how amazing the produce is here. But the food, with one exception, was… okay. The chapati starter came with whole wheat pita, emphatically not chapati. The gnocchi and pizza were fine, nothing special and certainly nothing special in Italy. The cheese on the chef’s board (21€) was indeed delicious, unfortunately the only memorable thing that we ate, and the board generally kind of disjointed. Nothing on the menu seemed as fresh vegetable forward as I would have expected. Most of it was vegan equivalents of Italian classics, such as pizza and pasta, which needs to be executed very well to be impressive. I would’ve been happier with a nice salad with the vegan cheese.
It’s too bad, because the owners were clearly passionate and provided great service, and Tuscan cuisine/ingredients can lend themselves to amazing vegan food. I admit that I am spoiled as a vegan in a major North American city, but this was distinctly okay. Particularly given that we were in Italy, it was...
Read moreWithout a doubt, Life Bistrot is among the top vegan restaurants in Italy (and in Europe!). My wife and I had dinner there and also lunch the day after, in order to try as many items of the menu as possible. Every dish is top notch, made with fresh organic ingredients, very tasty, presented extremely well, and even balanced from a nutritional point of view. The owner is a fantastic person and always willing to explain all the dishes and even the history of thr restaurant and the associated hotel in town. Personally I would particularly recommend the pici (especially if you like pepper), the seitan which is otherworldly, and the melanzana "alla parmigiana", but make sure you don't miss the desserts! If I could give this place 6 stars out of 5, I would. I hope I'll...
Read moreThis restaurant is much more than a restaurant - it's an absolutely wonderful experience. Enrico who owns it with his wife is magic. Everything comes from the heart, everything is thought about, every little element comes with care and consciousness. Plus the restaurant is built over Roman ruins that you can see through the glass floor. The food tasted wonderful, the menu is beautifully curated, the organic red wine is like something one can only imagine and more and more of the food that they serve is actually grown in their garden. Vegan or not, this is an absolute must. Thank you Enrico for sharing your heart and passion with us. We would love to share the...
