Shichirin-ya — Restaurant in Asahikawa

I have travelled several times to Japan for work and holiday even though I hardly speak Japanese. However tonight dinner at this place brought a sour and unhappy experience as the bill was incorrectly and overly calculated. I was trying to ask for a breakdown on how the amount charged but the waiter wasn’t able to give the breakdown. Even try to explain that the price on the English menu is not updated and price is inclusive of tax. I tried explaining that even adding in 10% tax the amount is incorrect. Anyway, I gave up since they insist on the price and language barrier. To me I feel that they are being dishonest just because we can’t converse in Japanese. This is unfortunate as I can see businesses are trying to recover post covid but with such dishonesty they will lose out on...

We got their drink + grill set menu for 2,000¥ per person, including one drink and two choices of meat for each one of us. We chose 3 types of pork entrails - shoyu, negi shio and spicy miso, as well as pork diaphragm. All were incredibly delicious, but the spicy miso was definitely the highlight for me. It was perfectly spiced and had a real kick to it. The service was okay, they just didn’t seem very happy to welcome us at first. I do speak Japanese fluently and at some point I just realized they probably were like this with everyone. Don’t be discouraged by this, they were still polite and the food was great ! Dishonest shop , over charge us 1000 yen just because we are tourists and couldn’t speak Japanese. When we calculated the prices of the items we ordered and showed them , they suddenly do not understand us. Black sheep like them really spoilt the image I have for Japanese. Where is the integrity ? Is it worthwhile to ruin a reputation for 1000 yen ? Covid 19 has really changed some people . Tourists do not patronize this...
