Seafood BBQ "Mekiki-no-Ginji" Beppu Station — Restaurant in Beppu

Dont come here and don't eat the prickles! They charge you 400¥ without telling anything. This is the first restaurant in Japan where the dishes look worse than on the menu. I am sad to say that, but it has been the worst experience in Japan and I cannot recommend it! We paid for 2 chicken wings, a dish of ridiculously small tempura (2 small fish, 1 mushroom, 1 aspargus), fried rice, one beer, 2 mini dishes of the already mentioned prickles, 1 bowl of ice cream all in all 4100¥. For that quality and the mini portions, way too overpriced. Go a bit further downtown and you will have some great food for less! No recommendation! I never rate anything, but this one was so bad I couldn't...

It is located in a convenient place but the food wasn't good. I got the sashimi teishoku and the fish were bland and still slightly frozen at parts. Other dishes I got were the assorted fried seafood skewers and whale sashimi in sesame oil and spring onions. The skewers were OK but not good, and the whale didn't really taste like whale. The sesame oil was too overpowering so it felt eating sesame oil.

Nice location right in front of Beppu station but I honestly feel cheated. Small servings of seafood rice bowl and kushikatsu and I was charged for appetizer/grill I didn't order. For the serving sizes, it's way too expensive. I saw the staff struggle with another foreign customer, so when it was my turn to order, he didn't want to speak to me directly and gave a tablet for ordering even if I speak Japanese pretty well....
