Mayakashiya — Restaurant in Beppu

Wonderful small restaurant next to the Beppu JR station.

We took set menus: the Ryukyu-style with marinated fish, and the local chicken tempura sets. Both kinds were delicious and plentiful Special mentions for the chicken thigh tempura, the grilled shiitake mushrooms and the plum wines.

Two people take care of both cooking and service, but dishes were served quite quickly. The service was friendly and very attentive, and made us feel comfortable. Detailed menus in English are provided, and the personnel speaks enough English to communicate smoothly.

Highly recommended overall, we would love to go back on a future...

Went with a friend. After ordering - Waited over 45 minutes for any food to get to my table. Service was slow and under par where fried food and ryūkyu was concerned. One chef and 2 staff running around. Hygiene and cleanliness was a concern as well. Very odd background music/the tv was at an angle that you can’t see it (most of the seats probably had this issue). Not a place I would recommend honesty if you’re looking it spend a good time...
