Absolute must go. 10/5 stars! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
This is a very special restaurant and I can't rate it highly enough. The service is just outstanding.
I ordered the Vegetable Tempura with the Vegan batter.
The head chef came to deliver our food and I asked him if the Tempura sauce on the counter was Vegan and is explained it was not but he went straight to the kitchen and made me some Vegan Tempura sauce from scratch for free!!
He recommend some other Vegan seasonal vegetable options he had which I decided to go for. After that he asked me several questions about how Veganism is increasing and what would Vegans really like to see on a menu. He really seemed like he'd like to get in on that market and cater to Vegans more!
He was greatful for the information and gave me and my girlfriend a free service of Amasake each! (Sweet creamy rice wine)
The hospitality was so good and the food was so delicious that we decided to come back the next day for dinner too. He seemed pleased to see us again and after our meal he gave us another free service of some special NihonShu (Japanese rice wine/"Sake") and also Sour plum Tempura! We were so happy to receive such generous treatment we couldn't believe it!
I've never received such good hospitality in a restaurant before it really set the bar and I can't recommend it enough. The food is so delicious and rice, soba and soups are all you can eat. This place is Vegan Tempura heaven!! What a great place. They even cook the vegan Tempura in a separate kitchen.
Shame I can only give it 5 stars since it deserves...
Read moreThis place was right around the corner from our hotel and I was really curious to try tempura in Japan because I hadn’t yet. We didn’t have to wait but that’s probably because it had been raining right before we came and it was a weekday around 11:30.
I really liked that this place allowed you to order individual tempura items that you could add to the order. You ordered from the iPad at the table and it was quite straightforward. We settled on the hot soba soup with three tempura vegetables and added a tempura pumpkin and egg. We also added a fried half chicken.
I thought the soba noodle soup was absolutely delicious. The noodles were a lovely texture and the broth was pretty sweet, but had a lot of flavor that I really enjoyed. The fried chicken was juicy and had so much meat, and the skin was an excellent flavor that didn’t taste too oily or heavy.
The tempura was just ok. I’m no tempura expert but I did find it pretty bland. They have salt, chili paste and dipping sauce for you so I suppose you can season it the way you like it. I think I would have preferred a bit more flavor.
Over to the side/in the corner of the restaurant is the dipping sauce that you can serve yourself. They also have miso soup there so if you order miso soup then you need to get it yourself. We didn’t realize that but in the end it was fine - they were happy to take it off of our bill.
The experience was a fun one and it was great to try the tempura. Although the tempura items weren’t my favorite it was nice to be able to pick and choose what to have and the other items were...
Read moreWe had lunch at this popular tempura restaurant after morning visit to Kawaguchi-ko area and about 30 minutes wait in queue in front of the shop. You just need to put your name on the wait list and when your number called, be ready.
I ordered the assorted prawn / shrimp tempura with extra Yamanashi / Yoshida Udon. My wife got the cheap Udon + 1 shrimp tempura set, and an extra fried veggie kaki-age. All dishes are great, and the tempura were top notch. The batters were crispy but not oily so good frying technique is applied. The Yoshida Udon are thick, a bit firm and yet has nice chewy texture when you bite them. Good combo with the tempura. All dishes cost us around ¥ 5,300 after consumption tax. We got free cold water drink from the bar, so all costs are related to food dishes but they're still good value for your money considering good quality and portion. Please note that you can apply different salt condiments to your dishes as per your preferences, but we love the yuzu and matcha salts.
You order dishes using the tablet ordering system and they have the English option. You can pay at the cashier using V/MC payment cards so another big plus for international customers. The restaurant is quite spacious and you can choose to sit on the bar like us or the table. The ambience is good and the place is bright and clean, good environment for...
