This place was amazing in so many ways. The location and the hospitality was amazing!
The location: Once you get to the Kawaguchiko Station, this inn is about a minute walk or less from where you get dropped off by the bus or train. You can actually see the inn from the station if you know where to look.
The hospitality: Now we were probably the most annoying guests this inn has ever had, but they still dealt with us kindly and never showed any frustration. We were annoying in 3 ways. 1) we couldnt make up our minds on which days we were climbing fuji. So we ended up making three separate bookings, all different priced rooms for this place. The staff and manager were very kind and gave us the most expensive room we paid for for the three days we were there, even though we paid the lower price of the cheaper rooms. 2) we kept changing when we wanted breakfast becuase we couldn't decide on when we wanted to climb Mt. Fuji. We order and prepaid for breakfast for the last two mornings we were there. We ended up doing a night climb our last night there and cancelled our breakfast order for the following morning. Manager Kazuyo was very kind and gave us 100% refund. 3) We left our camera at the inn, and they sent it to us! They were accomodating for every hiccup we made. Nothing can beat how well they treat their guests!
Other great things about this place:
If you are at Kawaguchiko to climb Fuji overnight, they let you keep your luggage there while you climb free of charge
You can shower/enjoy their hot bath for 30 minutes here after climbing fuji for a small fee of $7 if you're not a guest and $5 if you were initially a guest. You can rent a towel for the price of $1.
they have this machine where you can dry your wet shoes after clumbing fuji, you keep your hiking boots on that machine for about 1hour to 1 hour 30, and it gets pretty dry for a pair of shoes that usually take a day to dry.
We are definitely staying here again the next time we are back. It is not the newest or cleanest place since it is an older building, but they clean all the rooms and bath/shower everyday, and for the price you pay, nothing...
Read moreI wanted to thank the owner for a good experience. However, I also wanted to post a review for future bookings/travellers.
This is a well-run and English friendly inn right across from the station. They have a selection of rooms but I would consider this a high end hostel/economy lodge with a great view and location.
They clearly state in the bookings that this has shared bathrooms and toilets (there is one on each floor). They have 2 western private shower stalls (shared) as well as communal sento like bathing rooms (separated by gender). This is an older building so you need to temper your expectations and the bigger rooms have tatami floors and you sleep ON the floor on futons.
Their front desk also spoke perfect english and were very accommodating when we shortened our stay from 4 days to 2 days (as we wanted more time in Tokyo).
They also looked after our luggage after check out on our last day until we left the town in the late afternoon.
Kawakuchiko is a great town to see mount fuji. In addition, one secret is if you are ok with walking uphill; I recommend walking up the trail to the viewing lookout rather than taking the tram. The walk takes 45 minutes (going up) and provides many additional scenic and less crowded/grander viewing...
Read moreThis place had everything and more that we needed. It is right next to the Kawaguchiko Station. There is a bus from the station to Mt. Fuji that runs a few times a day to the 5th station. We climbed Mt. Fuji at night, so we took a taxi from the Inn to the Umagaeshi Trailhead before the 1st station. Taxi was ¥4600. We took the 5th station bus back for ¥1540 one-way per person. The innkeeper was extremely helpful. My fiance speaks Japanese, but the innkeeper seemed to know some English. We told him we were climbing Mt. Fuji at night, and he gave us a map, called the taxi for us, and lent us 2 flashlights for free!! The meals at the inn are American-sized, cheap, and pretty good. The western breakfast had HUGE pieces of toast and I substituted fruit (watermelon and grapefruit) for the salad. There is an onsen-like bath with soap/shampoo and coin laundry/detergent on the 4th floor. We slept on well-kept and clean futons. The inn provides yukata, toothbrush, towel, washcloth, place to air-dry clothes, TV, wifi, and tea in the room. Just know the inn only takes cash. The innkeeper let us drop our stuff off in our room while we pulled out money from the 7-11 ATM...
