TLDR: lovely staff, limited selection, limited hairstyles, a very leisurely experience, near coin lockers but they do have the service of taking care of your luggage, they try their best to be foreigner-friendly. Bring cash for deposit!
The first thing I noticed was that the staff used a translation device to communicate with non-Japanese speaking foreigners. Very commendable! All the staff were amazing – warm and friendly.
The selection of kimonos were quite small, but they do make up for it with the variety of designs and colours.
They do the most basic hairstyle but you do get to consult on which suits you the best. (They also state this upfront before payment.)
I loved that they don’t rush me when returning the kimono. I could pack my stuff properly and make sure I don’t leave anything behind.
I didn’t know this beforehand but they apparently offer a service of taking care of your luggage too! If not, you can always use the coin lockers that are literally right outside their shop.
They accept card payments but their deposit (10,000 yen) is in cash only.
Overall, a very pleasant experience! Would love to patronise again;...

The teams that dressed us up in the formal outfits and the team at the studio took their jobs professionally, yet were very warm and friendly, and there was much laughter. We had a ball of a time, feeling like it was our wedding day all over again. It was a highlight of the whole Japan trip! We are happy with the high resolution photographs taken in a proper studio with professional lighting and props. Given our limited time in Yamanashi, we opted for the images to be stored in CDs, which the studio delivered to our hotel later in the day and we brought home and printed the photos ourselves. I'm SO pleased that we opted to splurge a bit more for this beautiful experience. I highly recommend Marumune Kimono Rental, which, incidentally, has been in the kimono wholesale/retail business for about 60 years and so their outfits are quality ones. Arigatogozaimasu, Ms Wakana and all the lovely...
Read moreI cannot recommend enough this amazing place, everyone in the store was so helpful and kind, and the kimonos were absolutely beautiful, I also love how they did my hair (so fast too!). Location is great, just some minutes walking next to the kawaguchiko station, they also had some beautiful souvenirs which I bought as well.
We’ll never forget this, It was so nice to meet you, hope to see...
