Sentarou — Restaurant in Fujiyoshida

Went there and had amazing sushi and makis !! The restaurant seems lost in a housing neighborhood and is very cute. It was a Saturday around 19h30-40 when we arrived. Only 4 locals inside eating. We sat at the counter table and looked at the chef preparing our order. I shared a 10 sashimi plate, took tekka maki + futo maki. The futo maki was 8 pieces not 6 and it was the biggest maki I had in my life, could barely eat it at once. The futo maki is a mix of different fish/crab/omelette. The chef offered us a miso soup each and a dessert made by his wife (sort of peach sweet sugary pudding, clearly the best dessert I had in Japan). Restaurant closes early, 20h50. Just truly amazing. The 4.2 rating it currently has is ridiculous, I would give it 10 stars out of 5 if I could.

We sat at the bar and watched the sushi master at work. The people are extremely friendly, starting a little chat and giving us tips on how to eat sushi (we’ve been doing it all wrong all these years 😁). They go out of their way to serve you the perfect meal. The experience is authentic, not because to try to be authentic but because they just are.

As I was just by myself I was placed with other guests at the counter right in front of where the sushi master prepares the food. Per recommendation of one of the Japanese guests I ordered the „chef‘s menu“ which is basically sushi prepared by the chef‘s recommendation and according to your preferences if you wish.
