I want to share my experience here so that other tourists are aware. I visited this café in Kamiyoshida with two friends while on vacation in Japan. At first, everything seemed fine—we were the only customers besides the owners (a man and a woman). After about 15–20 minutes, two uniformed policemen arrived. They were drinking casually with the owners, which already felt unusual to us.
When it was time to pay our bill, we noticed that an unexpected cover charge per person had been added. This was never mentioned to us when we entered. We politely asked if the owners could remove the charge. Instead of a simple conversation, the two policemen—who were clearly friends of the owners—intervened. They had been drinking, and one of them became aggressive, raising his voice at us. Since he didn’t understand English, communication was very difficult.
The situation escalated to the point where we felt intimidated and harassed. The policemen repeatedly asked for our passports, spoke loudly in Japanese (possibly shouting or insulting us), and pressured us to comply. Under their watch, all three of us were forced to leave 5-star reviews for the café, which made us feel extremely unsafe. After leaving, we even noticed that they seemed to follow our car for a while, which added to our fear.
This experience was very disturbing. Instead of being treated as customers, we felt cornered and threatened. It seemed like the owners and the policemen were working together to intimidate tourists into paying hidden fees and writing fake positive reviews.
For fellow travelers: please be cautious. This was one of the worst experiences we had during our trip to Japan, and I would strongly advise...
