Among all the bakeries in Fukuoka, Dacomecca near Hakata Station is the #1 on my to-go list. Even on a weekday, the snaking queue outside was full of both locals and tourists.
The bread journey began once you entered the store. We were massively impressed by the long display table of sweet and savory bakes. From lining up to placing order, the whole process took us around 30 mins.
* Shio Pan 塩パン🌟 The simplest bread is always the best — we all agreed the Shio Pan (sea salt butter roll) won us over with its incredibly airy texture. The roll was fluffy soft, faintly sweet, and buttery.
* EGG EGG エッグエッグ🌟 A close second would be Egg Egg. With housemate egg tartar sauce tucked between the sweet milk bun, it was topped with two halves of ramen egg. Love the rich layers of flavors and textures packed in this bread.
* Tamago Sando たまごサンド The tamagoyaki mixed with housemade mayonnaise was encased in between the milk bun. Another delightful treat for egg lovers.
* Dacomecca Dog ダコメッカドッグ🌟 I couldn’t resist the urge of getting their signature hotdog as they grilled the sausages over charcoal fire in front of you. It was a pleasure to watch them preparing and refilling the bread. The constant crowd proved that all the bakes are freshly made.
* Grilled Cheese & Honey Toast クロックマドモワゼル The thickly cut toast was baked and loaded with gratin sauce and four types of cheese: cheddar, gouda, gorgonzola, and grana padano. They poured and grilled the honey on top to make it scrumptious.
* Brioche Honey Toast ブリオッシュハニートースト Many customers got this piece but I felt like it wasn’t as outstanding as the other bread. Probably because the toast turned cold and lose its crispiness. I do believe it will taste heavenly if you...

This trendy "Bakery Circus" near Hakata Station is the creation of renowned chef Ryota Hirako and a sister store to the iconic I'm donut? . Since opening in 2021, it has become a paradise for bread lovers, offering an impressive selection of 120-130 different savory, sweet, and rustic breads .
The experience is fully self-serve: you grab a tray, choose your bread from the arched counters, pay at the register, and then find your own seat in the small dining area at the back . A key highlight is the live charcoal grill at the entrance, where sausages and other meats are grilled for use in the savory breads, filling the air with an incredible aroma . For breads not freshly grilled, a small toaster is available for customers to warm their purchases .
Must-try items include the Dako Mecca Dog featuring a juicy, charcoal-grilled sausage; the Mentaiko France, a crispy baguette filled with a local Fukuoka delicacy of spicy cod roe; and the rich, creamy Maritozzo, an Italian-inspired sweet bun .
The bread is undoubtedly fresh and delicious, with an overwhelming number of choices. It's better to pace yourself and plan two visits to try different freshly made breads throughout the day rather than buying everything at once. Note that the dine-in area has a one-drink minimum per person .
Verdict: A must-visit for bread enthusiasts. The quality and variety justify the hype, but be prepared for crowds and come...

Sausage bun - charcoal grilled herby sausage which was snappy. Can’t really taste much charcoal flavour, but the sausage was good (not too salty). Bread was a good vessel for the fillings, sturdy yet not too hard to bit through. Sausage rested on a bed of raw cabbage slaw which was mixed with a light mayo sauce). Overall a balanced bread with good components that combined to make a decently yummy bread. Worth trying.
Pork with cheese (?) sauce - bread was slightly tougher, but it paired well with the tender pork. In the bread there was cooked cabbage and a tomato slice. This was my favourite, as it felt like a creamy, cabbage soup with a savoury bacon slice.
Honey brioche - can give this a skip. It was rather dry with the sweetness only coming from the surface layer. Felt like they only created this to get rid of day old bread.
Honey cheese toast - very interesting, not overly cheesy nor sweet, quite pleasant to eat. It was very messy and I would recommend sharing simply because there was a lot of cheese sauce that can get quite overwhelming after a few bites. Can give it a try.
Pistachio white chocolate madeline - leaning slightly sweet, the madeline was moist and soft. The flavours were prominent and it was a...
