Taishū Kappō Masami — Restaurant in Fukuoka

I’m about as gaijin as it gets with my blue eyes but if you can get past the people staring and you know basic Japanese etiquette then this is the place. I stood outside for a while the first time and watched where people went. Most of them went here, so did I. Come to find out the bartender from the night before noticed me in here too. Ate here for 3 days straight and my goodness the fried whale is amazing. Good luck getting a seat a lunchtime. 1000 yen or less for lunch. Go around 2 or 3, perfect...

Very recommend. The style is very traditional. You pay after you eat as you pay after you are satisfy with a smile and thanks for the food. The place is quite although it's very crowded. You wait a while to get the food as the staff working very hard to prepare your food on demand. Very quick compared with others. The fish is fresh. The ceiling was renewed recently. We wanted to see the fish market and have traditional Japanese breakfast on a rainy morning. At least we had a lovely breakfast. This place is a little old fashioned, and we were offered counter seats. Umbrella is a no-no inside! Food was actually very good. I wanted something cooked, so I had a fish stew based set meal while my partner had a sashimi based. Both felt a lot better after this lovely food. Don't judge a book by its cover....
