Read moreFirst of all, I am into aircraft and military scale models. The section or part of the shop for these products which also includes car and ship models, takes about 1/10th of the space. There you will find a lot of rare for us, Europeans, model kits, mainly Japanese but also old US model kits too. Also, I saw there about 50-year-old Airfix kits with no word in Latin but Japanese alphabet! Though this section is very small but it is definitely worthy a visit especially if you are after rare kits. The prices are very low, I bought a bunch of Fujimi model kits (about a dozen) and paid between £3 and £8 for each 1/72 scale kit. If you go there for model kit hunting - take your passport with you and get the VAT refund at the counter! The rest of the shop is stuffed with all sorts of figures, figurines, comics and magazines dedicated to Manga, Gungam, Bandai, Shmandai, and other action figures from the Japanese...
Read moreA hidden gem within the Tenjin area of Fukuoka; Mandarake is a well recognized name among the locals as a place to pick up second hand and rare collectables. This place has manga, CDs, magazines, toys, model kits among many other things. Sections that are locked behind glass showcases typically display the pricier items and if you'd want something from the showcase, you'll need to contact one of the staff. They also offer a duty-free service here if your purchase is over 5000 yen. I had picked up a few volumes of manga for cheap; the outside wall of the shop (right in front of the parking lot) offers a wall of cheap manga at 100 yen each. Great place to visit if you're looking for some nostalgic toys and items as well as place to spend a considerable amount of time if you're into...
