I am very late in writing this review - I was in Gifu 3-4 years ago - but I'm so glad to see that Marquee is still doing well. My wife and I were walking through town one evening, and saw all the Aussie flags hanging up. As an Australian, I was naturally curious at how a relatively small and "minor" Japanese city would end up with an "Australian bar".

So I went in, and what do I see but AFL on the TV, VB in the fridge, and a guy from Melbourne behind the counter! What fun that was. As an added bonus, we just happened to be there on a "chat in English" evening that the bar was running, so got to make some new friends in Gifu and chat about the city.

Honestly one of my most memorable nights in all the trips I've taken to Japan. I hope COVID restrictions lift soon so I...

Owner Chris is a friendly and kind soul. I had frequented his bar quite a few times 9 years ago when I had an extended trip to Japan but had not been able to return until recently and I was so happy to see that this place was still going strong. I went in last night and it was like going to an old friend's house.

If you are looking for a place to enjoy some English conversation and have some laughs, this is the best place in Gifu.

See you again soon Chris, I promise it won't take 9 years...

Being an Aussie myself, I appreciate the effort that the owner Chris has put into making his bar very much an Aussie feel amongst the Japanese vibe. Its unique and fantastic.
