Hakone is a wonderful town with a busy main street, relaxing hotels, and hotsprings. My group stummbled into Kinosuke after it was recommended by the town information guide. This place was delicious! They have tables with chairs and the more authentic Japanese dinner tables you must sit crisscross at after removing your shoes. The menu was in Japanese but I've learned you can get pretty far and eat really well in Japan by pointing at the menu and asking "Osusume?" To your waiter for their recommendation. The fish was delicious! Their recommended dish came with 3 types of mackerel, which is much tastier than the ones in the States. The bones have been well cooked through and become brittle enough to eat, so I cleaned my whole plate. Me and my friends have been talking about this place since our visit. You gotta go if...

The taste is acceptable, by the way, since there is only one restaurant in the area that stays open late. I would like to ask the cashier girl at the front desk, there is a sign posted outside saying no outside drinks allowed, but I've been waiting in line outside your door to buy a drink to drink, and before I could finish it, I was already inside the building. Is it more appropriate for me to pour the water on the ground outside your door and throw the bottle away there, or to keep it on the table and not drink it? Is there a trash can near your door? If you don't welcome foreign tourists, just write a sign saying we only provide food for locals. If you want to do business with tourists, treat them normally and don't waste the efforts of your other...

Great food, but unfortunate experience. Servers didn’t speak any English and it’s only important because of the story that I’m about to tell. My wife and I finished eating dinner there and went to pay for our bill of 3,300¥. They don’t take credit card so I went to 7-11 and took out 20,000. I gave the lovely server 10,000¥ and she gives me back 700¥!...as if the meal was 330¥ and I had given her the 1000¥ note. Usually I just take the change and go without counting it but I knew I was expecting quite some change due to the larger size of the offered bill. Very very disappointed because we wanted to rate this well but will never go back here since we almost got scammed ¥9,000. The ladies that serve are super nice and they’re older but don’t be...

This is a good option in the area for some grilled fish teishoku tho we've had better. Rather than the 3 type grilled fish (which comes in small portions - for us the saba was overly burnt on one side) we'd recommend just choosing one fish set meal. For the salmon teishoku the portion just seemed overall better and fish was more juicy (maybe as it was a bigger cut? Usually Saba is juicy because of the oil but the one here was soso). The area doesn't have many great food options for dinner (many ppl will be dining in their Ryokan/accommodation). We got here before opening and there was still a queue. We did manage to get the first seating tho - we saw others who came around opening time and were turned away.
