I had the pleasure of dining at Sushi Sakai, and it was nothing short of extraordinary. This newly opened high-end sushi restaurant in Hakuba is a true gem, offering an unparalleled omakase experience in the heart of the mountains.

From the moment we arrived, the ambiance was elegant yet intimate, blending modern sophistication with traditional Japanese craftsmanship. The counter seating allowed us to watch the chef’s artistry up close, making the experience even more special.

Every piece of sushi was a masterpiece—impeccably fresh, beautifully presented, and perfectly balanced. The selection of seafood, sourced from the finest markets in Japan, was outstanding. Highlights included the buttery toro, rich and creamy uni, and the delicately seared nodoguro. The rice was seasoned to perfection, enhancing the natural flavors of each ingredient.

The service was just as remarkable. The staff were warm, knowledgeable, and attentive, ensuring that every detail was taken care of. The sake pairing was expertly curated, complementing each course beautifully.

Hakuba is already known for its world-class skiing, and now Sushi Sakai adds a top-tier dining experience to the mix. If you’re looking for an unforgettable sushi experience in the area, this is the place to be. I can’t...

As a chef this was genuinely such a wonderful meal. And by far our favorite dining experience in Hakuba!

Each course was so delicious thoughtfully presented. I’ve spent a lot of time traveling in Japan and this was one of my top sushi experiences. Fish was so fresh we hardly used the soy sauce, rice was perfection. House saki was delicious.

The staff was also really amazing, so comforting and kind and they made the whole experience super fun and lovely.

Each bite had an abundant amount of quality fish we left full and so content.

We sat next to a lovely Persian couple who also loved it and we couldn’t believe how delicious the experience was. Will be going back every time I’m...

After a long few weeks of riding bottomless powder, we decided to have a night out at Sushi Sakai. My close friend and I were immediately greeted by the kindest staff, who brought us to our seats right in front of where Chef Sakai does some serious magic.

For the next few hours we experienced so many beautiful flavours, the freshest fish I’ve had in Japan and an atmosphere that makes it easy to relax.

I loved the variety of dishes and how there was no rush. We were truly able to sit back and enjoy some sake and good food. The staff went above and beyond with a few requests and that really meant a lot to me. I’ll be back on my next...
