Wagyu Shabu Shabu Hakuba — Restaurant in Hakuba

We had an absolutely outstanding dining experience during our ski trip, thanks to the exceptional service provided by a lovely waiter (we regret not asking his name, but he was the one who spoke multiple languages fluently!). Given that we were a large group of nine, we didn’t expect much in terms of service, but they exceeded all expectations and delivered a true 5-star experience.

From the warm welcome to the detailed introduction of each dish, they ensured every moment was enjoyable. The way they demonstrated how to enjoy shabu-shabu—especially calling it the “swimming beef”—made our meal even more memorable. When we requested raw eggs, the waiter went the extra mile to accommodate our request, showing their dedication to customer satisfaction.

To top it all off, the chef personally came out to bid us farewell, which made us feel like honored guests rather than just customers. The atmosphere was cheerful, welcoming, and full of positive energy, making our experience even more delightful.

As for the food—simply amazing! While the prices are slightly on the higher side, it’s completely understandable given that Hakuba has become a popular ski destination. The quality, service, and overall experience make it worth every penny.

We will definitely be back next year! Highly recommend this restaurant to anyone...

2 of us wanted to have something to warm the body after 30 mins of walking in the cold and we found the right place. Newly opened for 2 days only, the place is a stone throw away from the JR train station. They specialise in wagyu beef and Japanese pork. (They have English menu). I chose the set with both. The dishes are nicely presented and the meat was of really good quality at a very reasonable price. Oh! The 2-minute ramen at the end was a nice surprise, it was simple, but fresh and chewy. Our experience at Wagyu Shabu Shabu was exceptional. We had a group booking which was flexibly catered to, with an enthusiastic and warm female staff member who went above and beyond to meet our needs. The food was top tier, quality meat and little extras that were a lovely touch. The staff even offered to book our taxi on the way out which was a hard find in the Hakuba area.
