Foreigner and price friendly, but not for those looking to enjoy a good bar scene. This is not it. Like, at all. Also, trying to find this place was a pain. It really is just a hole-in-the-wall bar with no directions or advertisements. If you do manage to find the one, little piece of paper on the surfboard, that's been there for probably ages, with its name on it in the tiniest font you can think of then good on you. You kind of just have to be lucky or stumble across here in a drunken stupor to get to the spot tbh. And the Google directions don't help either since it's listed wrong. Not even close. About 3-4 blocks away from what Google has it as. I only came here as it was recommended to me from a coworker, which is now questionable about what they think is "in" after this, who was here in the early, early 2000's and I'll say it was AND still is definitely stuck in that era. That's not a good thing. This place borders the line of average, at best, & dumpster trash and I'm being very generous at that and I can imagine I'm not the only one thinking this. Plus, one bartender trying to serve everyone isn't ideal unless you want to lose your buzz having to wait on your next drink (picture for reference on people waiting minus any bartender). I applaud the effort though. Best of luck for all trying to go here. I would highly, HIGHLY suggest you don't waste your time or money or effort at this so called bar. Sorry not sorry. And side note, no Ken so yeah there was that. Don't say I didn't...
Read moreThis bar is amazing and really the most underground bar in Hiroshima, but it’s hard to find. It’s located in an apartment building. To get there, find the surfboard on the street. Then go up the stairs located behind the surfboard. There is a small sign that says Ken’s bar next to an apartment door, open the door and you are in the bar! If you can’t find it, just ask a local and they will all know where it is.
Ken is super chill and speaks Japanese, English, and Spanish. The salsa and bachata music that Ken plays is music you will actually hear in Colombia. Romeo Santos, Oscar de Leon, Hector Lavoe, etc. The people in the bar are really friendly. They have a nice big dance floor with a mirror.
Just know that people do smoke inside this bar. So if you are sensitive to cigarette smoke, this place may not be for you.
I had so much fun here and met so many...
Read moreThis is just an amazing bar, the number one bar in Hiroshima! It is a little bit hard to find, especially if you are not used to the often well hidden Japanese bars and restaurants that have a small staircase leading up to them. Though it shouldn't be to hard to find - just find the Ken's bar sign and then go up the stairs until you reach the bar. The bar itself has a really nice atmosphere, cool music, friendly people and so much more. It is foreigner friendly, the drinks are really cheap - 500 JPY per drink and the barman makes the whole experience even better! He speaks both Japanese and English, recommends you drinks, partakes in various bar activities etc. So yeah, if you want to have some fun in the evening, this...
