Koharu亭 — Restaurant in Hiroshima

Je n’ai mis qu’une seule étoile parce qu’il n’est pas possible d’en mettre 0.

Je n’ai jamais été aussi déçu dans un restaurant au Japon.

Au bout de 2 semaines de voyage à travers le Japon, j’ai voulu faire une pause avec la cuisine locale et j’ai choisi ce restaurant de « spécialités occidentales » à proximité de l’hôtel.

Tout d’abord la vaisselle n’était pas propre.

Ensuite, la nourriture était insipide ou franchement mal cuisinée. Comme ces spaghettis (trop cuites) au mentaiko où je pouvais presque compter les œufs de poissons. Quelle idée abominable de couvrir de sauce au roquefort des beignets d’huîtres ? C’était tellement fort que j’ai cru les huîtres avariées. Le cuistot n’a jamais dû mettre les pieds en Europe et c’est par ouïe dire qu’il a connu la cuisine française et italienne.

Le service était brouillon. Un plat non commandé a dû être renvoyé. Pour un restaurant occidental, personne n’y parle l’anglais ni aucune autre langue que le japonais. C’est assez pathétique dans un quartier touristique.

Mais le clou de la soirée fut une histoire à dormir debout au sujet des boissons. D’habitude, je me contente de boire de l’eau le soir. Mais la serveuse m’a fait comprendre que si je voulais manger j’étais obligé de commander une boisson payante. En France, on appellerait cela de la vente forcée !

A éviter de toute évidence !

I have never been so disappointed in a restaurant in Japan.

After two weeks of traveling across Japan, I wanted to take a break from local cuisine and chose this so-called “Western specialties” restaurant near my hotel.

First of all, the tableware wasn’t clean.

Then, the food was either bland or downright poorly cooked. Like those overcooked mentaiko spaghetti where I could practically count the fish eggs. And who in their right mind pours Roquefort sauce over fried oysters? The taste was so strong I thought the oysters had gone bad. The chef has clearly never set foot in Europe and must have learned about French and Italian cuisine through hearsay.

The service was a mess. A dish we never ordered had to be sent back. And for a “Western” restaurant, no one speaks English—or any language other than Japanese. Quite pathetic in a touristy area.

But the cherry on top was the ridiculous drink policy. Normally, I just have water with dinner. But the waitress made it clear that I had to order a paid drink if I wanted to eat. In France, we’d call that forced selling!

Definitely...

This place is amazing. We found this hidden gem around on Google maps and we absolutely loved the food.

The atmosphere and owners of the restaurant were lovely. They provided an English menu and ordering was easy!

We ordered from the set menu Hamburger Steak set and pork loin set and we loved it! We both had the topping of radish and it was amazing!

We finished it with the sorbet and that really really finished the set perfectly!...
