Wagahai Japanese Tea Stand — Restaurant in Izu

My husband and I were enjoying a Shizuoka road trip over a long weekend and stopped in Shuzenji for lunch.

When I discovered there was a tea stand on Google maps I had to stop by before we left for the next part of our journey 🚙.

I ordered a hot matcha latte with soy milk and my husband had some iced sencha. Both were lovely! I had been looking for some good matcha / sencha in Izu ~ was so glad to find some here 💚

My only regret was we didn’t have time to sit inside and enjoy the beautiful decor… it really was a beautiful and relaxing space 🍵 I think the owners have put a lot of love and care into their shop 💚

Ps: you can buy Shizuoka matcha here! The matcha they use in their lattes. I always wanted to try...

A beautiful and calm café run by a very friendly couple. The atmosphere was nice and delightful with cool furniture and good music playing in the background. I had the best matcha in Japan so far and their seasonal cheesecake was a blast, also the best I had in my entire life. The owners were really welcoming, heartfelt and even gave some tips about Shuzenji. One feels as well taken care of as at very few other places. Anyone being in Shuzenji should come here, I hope I’ll be able to return...

Had the iced matcha latte and matcha terrine here and they were so good… so very good!!! Wish I could rewind time so I could eat it again.. we gobbled the food up in a flash.

The owners were also very hospitable and attentive and the vibes were also on point :) also bought two small cans of matcha powder. Would definitely return if I’m in the area :) will recommend this...
