My absolutely worst experience during all my many trips to Japan! Our family travel to Japan at least four times a year for skiing, onsen, gourmet, shopping, and many other things. We speak basic Japanese, and understood the Japnese culture and courtesy, and we were always great ful to the great devices we received. However, I really had no idea what went wrong with the old lady running the restaurant today, she was basically lashing out rudely when we were ordering, though we still ordered all their signature pieces, such as unagi bento, tempura bento, chicken rice bowl, and etc.,given there were 7 of us including our driver and nannies. Objectively speaking, food materials were good and fresh, though cooking and tastes were far from what's offered by a top notch restaurant also competing within the same price range. This is a cash only restaurant, and that's part of the reason why people have to stand in a queue to pay though there weren't that many customers. Here comes the most ridiculous part: I stood in the queue until finally it came my turn, and out of nowhere two locally people popped in with tons of requests and questions trying to book a table (for next week!!!), the restaurant lady together with these dudes immediately started this forever going discussion totally ignoring the line. When I tried to remind them I even got shushed! When the conversation was finally over. The lady went back kitchen telling her colleagues of the new reservation, and I was bluntly ignored again!!! I really love Kamakura for its history, culture and legacies, and the restaurant was only 3-4 minutes' walk to the world famous bronze Budda. I found it on Google, and the realized some of the restaurants that have good Google ratings turned lazy and arrogant. Google does need new review systems to periodically check on Venues that have been in the system for...
Read moreWe came in because we saw how heavily advertised the eel box was. The food was generally good. We ordered the tempura set and an eel box, and needless to say, both were delicious.
The tempura set was very tasty. Tempura was nicely fried with adequate seasoning. They were very generous with the portion too. Highly recommended.
The eel was crispy and crunchy on the outside, while it was also soft and fluffy on the inside. However, one slight complaint was how thin the eel was. It was quite pricey, so I expected a little more.
Three points to note - it could take a while for them to serve the food, they are quite pricey, and there was no English menu (we relied on google translate).
Overall, a positive experience. If you’re looking for quick and dirty food, this isn’t the restaurant to visit. But if you want a nice relaxing lunch with good food,...
