I had high hopes for Chachakoubou Kamakura after seeing the Mont Blanc matcha ice creams all over social media. It looked beautiful and I was excited to try it, even though the price was steep. But honestly, the experience was so unpleasant that I regret spending a single yen there. (It cost about $14 Canadian or 1400 Yen)

From the moment we walked in, the woman behind the counter made it clear we weren’t welcome. My husband greeted her with a polite “konichiwa” and she responded with a look of pure disgust. No words, no smile, not even basic courtesy. It was so hostile we almost walked right back out, but I really wanted to try the ice cream. Big mistake.

She didn’t say a single word to us during the entire transaction. Her body language screamed annoyance and contempt. It felt like she hated tourists and didn’t want us there at all. I’ve heard that some Kamakura locals are starting to resent the influx of visitors, and this encounter made that painfully obvious.

The ice cream itself? Sure, it was good. But you can get matcha Mont Blanc in Tokyo for around $8.50 Canadian, and the service there is actually pleasant. Here, you’re paying nearly double for the privilege of being treated like garbage. It left such a bad taste in my mouth that the dessert couldn’t make up for it.

Japan is known for its hospitality, and we had amazing experiences with kind, welcoming people throughout our trip—except here. This was hands down the rudest person we met in the entire country. If you’re visiting Kamakura, skip this place. There are plenty of other businesses that actually appreciate your visit and deserve...

The other I have visited this shop, it was my first time trying the Macha Mont Blanc. The shop owner clearly explained how it is made and its history. They are making this with authentic Macha along with the chess nut that turned out to be delicious. The owner has many shops that he owns and we could find the same Mont Blanc in Asakusa also that is trending in Instagram. Where that is same as here, if you feel Asakusa is far, we have kamakura. This shop is been open from few months back and it is inbetween Hasedera and Kotokuji, would recommend it. And the shop owner will let you take photos and videos of making Icecream. For now the Mont Blanc cost 1400yen if I am not...

Love this dessert that this shop has to offer. Matcha flavour was strong and good. There are many toppings inside the cone; red bean, ginko paste, vanilla ice cream and more. I bought back some matcha powder back since my local tour guide told me this shop has the best matcha powder. Would love to come back for my...
