Their eyes are glassy and their colours vibrant, this gate is indeed small in stature but so is the walkway to see the great Kamakura Buddha after it. This is not a minus to me it is fitting and almost jarring to see such a grand and storied Buddha housed this way - very powerful. Take your time to view the beautiful cedar trees behind the Buddha as well. I waited my entire life to see you and you did not disappoint.

I feel lucky to have passed through this wonderful gate. So peaceful and in a great area. Also it is leading to the amazing Buddha! This was my first temple gate to pass through in Japan. I hope to pass through many more. By the way, I love Japan

The Niomon is a bit of a disappointing (or humble?) gateway to a temple that houses one of Japan's largest Buddha statues. Perhaps the two divine guards with their terrifying look and their fiery red bodies...
