This is the sweetest little spot. While we were locking our bikes up outside, the server noticed that we were about to come in, and after double checking, began setting up for us to sit. They did this despite the fact that they had technically closed 20 minutes prior! (We did not know until we sat down and there was still another group in there being served) They provided us excellent service in a wonderful atmosphere while they closed down the shop. We originally sat by the door, and since there was room, they set up some fans farther into the store so we could enjoy some cooler air. As someone who has worked in food service, I hate it when people come in at the end of close, but this restaurant served us with nothing but kindness and good grace. Not only that, but I could tell the staff really worked hard and efficiently to provide good service. I would recommend this to any of my friends passing through! (Also, the food was really good! We got the yakisoba cold and some fried items on the side....
Read moreWe were anticipating eating here and actually forego going to our favourite Hamburg place (Kamakura Rokutaya). But we were sadly disappointed.
We arrived at 1120am and managed to get the last 3 seats. However, we ordered two sets of hot udon with chicken tempura sampler and another set of cold udon and ebi tempura sampler.
Sadly, we have travelled through Japan extensively and this was one of the few tasteless udon we’ve ever tasted. No idea why it was so highly rated. Plus, after we got our seats, there was a long queue waiting outside. Furthermore, the portions of tempura is so little and so small. Given the pricing, it is not worth it. For 3 sets, we paid around 6,360 yen. Not worth it all.
Not sure if it’s foreigners having subpar standards of how good handmade udon should taste like that makes the reviews go up but I would not recommend this place. There are other better udon places in Kamakura and other parts of Japan that taste way...
Read moreI went for lunch and ordered the tempura shrimp and udon set for lunch. The tempura was served first. The three pieces of shrimp were fried perfectly with a very light batter. There was also another piece of fish and a piece of sweet potato, all also lightly fried and delicious.
The main delight though was the udon noodles. It was a large portion size. They were a little bit thicker than I’m usually used to and had an excellent amount of chewiness to them.
The service was fine but a little slow. I had to wait for more than twenty minutes to get my food after ordering. The counter-only seating also makes things crowded with plates, cups, and condiments piling up.
The woman that sat next to me inadvertently(?) banged her knee against my leg when sitting down. Perhaps it was her way of breaking the ice as she apologized in not so bad English. We proceeded to have a nice conversation. What happened next? I’ll leave that to your...
