Stopped by for a late lunch around 2pm and were greeted warmly by the cook and waiter. The restaurant is intimate and bar seats give you a great view of the kitchen. We were immediately served cold tea to recover from the hot day outside which was incredibly thoughtful. They offer a few generous lunch sets, I got the grilled fish which came with fluffy rice, a slightly sweet sauce delightfully offset by some wasabi paste, a seaweed soup, pickled vegetables, a tofu salad with a light savory dressing, hijiki salad, and some shredded lightly pickled daikon all for an insanely low price. All the food was healthy, tasty, and offered various flavors that complemented each other well. I regret not going back every day for lunch while in Kanazawa! Quite possibly my favorite meal in Japan so...
Read moreI'm an English-speaking local guide living in Kanazawa. Ducked into this Japanese restaurant to get a quick bite for lunch. It's located in the pedestrian mall called Tatemachi shopping street. The restaurant is cozy with counter seats mainly and one table seat. The kitchen is wide open with no barrier between the counter seats and you can see the whole process of the cooking. Upon entering, I was served cold tea to recover from the sweltering hot weather outside. They offer a few lunch set meals, and I ordered the grilled fish bowl with sweet sauce and some wasabi paste. It accompanied a seaweed soup, pickled vegetables and a tofu salad. It was 1,600 yen. All the food was healthy, tasty. Recommended for people who are looking for a Japanese restaurant in the...

We came across this izakaya while walking down the strip, which was a small spot with a few locals there when we arrived. Looked like a mother and son run restaurant, both of whom were so kind and accommodating, as we weren’t able to speak much Japanese at all. With the help of translator apps, we were able to order and get their recommendations on dishes (there were many options).
All of the food was so fresh and delicious, especially the yellowtail over rice dish we ordered. Truly was some of the best food we had during our trip to Japan thus far. Wanted to come back the day after for lunch but found out they were closed that day.
Would highly recommend for the food and kindness...
