Japanese Restaurant ｢Benkay｣ — Restaurant in Kanazawa

I don't usually leave non 5 star reviews, as it hurts restaurants on the algorithm and it may just not be my kinda place. For a spendy meal in a fancy hotel however, I think it's worth reviewing so people know what they're getting into.

The service is impeccable and impersonal. Food is perfectly cooked, though some of the pieces of meat (one slice of duck and one piece of sashimi were so sinuey that I had to swallow them not completely chewed.

The real problem I had with the meal was that it wasn't very flavourful. To be clear, I love subtle non too salty Japanese cooking, but each dish, with the exception of the grilled nodoguro (which was amazing) didn't bring out the flavors of the highlighted ingredients.

Disclaimer: I only spent 13000¥ on dinner, one of their lowest price points. Maybe if I spend 20k they add...

娘の中学卒業と高校合格の祝いをかね、白川郷旅行の帰りに、 家族でランチを頂きました。 とても良い思い出です✨

静かな日本庭園？緑を眺めるカウンターで、カウンターでのお寿司に慣れていない…超ど緊張の、親子3人。

最初は、板さんと（辻本さん？辻村さん？というお名前だったような…）、 あまり会話もなく、淡々と、 美味しいお寿司を頂いておりました。

どれも、神奈川の地元とは違う、 ご当地のお魚や海藻が美味しくて…。 何を食べても、北陸、金沢の海の幸に、 大満足。 鯖もおいしい…岩のりも…。

最後のお寿司になりますが、と 言われ、 あのぅ、のどぐろも追加していいですか？ と、あわててお願いした私。

そこから、急に、 なぜか板さんと会話が弾みだし(⁠^⁠^⁠)

白川郷で、私が村の人から英語で話しかけられたエピソードや、 21世紀美術館にこれから行くとか、 美術大学の話で、 結構楽しく、盛り上がりました。 おすすめのお土産屋さんも、 教えて頂いて。

そして、最後の最後に、 追加したのどぐろは、 まさに、絶品でした！！(⁠ ⁠˘⁠ ⁠³⁠˘⁠)⁠♥

Had high hopes for this place. Went here for lunch at sushi bar. Very fishy smell, and the sushi was a little sub par. Maki rolls we’re good but quality of cuts for akami tuna and Chu-Toro fatty tuna left gristle on cut. Have had sushi all over world and Japan and this was sub par especially...
