Tenkane Tempura Restaurant — Restaurant in Kanazawa

I'm an English-speaking local guide here in Kanazawa. Personally I often eat out in the city centre of Kanazawa, where there are hundreds of lovely restaurants. I thought I knew lots of eateries, however I didn't know about this one. Tenkane (天金) is a tempura restaurant located near the Higashi Chaya Teahouse District. The restaurant is owned and run by Kinjoro (金城楼), a renowned Ryokan, and it's on the premises of the Ryokan. Everything was perfect!✨ Taste, ambience, lush garden, tableware and hospitality. It's also perfect cost-wisely. It's only 6,000yen😲

The chef is kind of a romantic poet, and he picks up one haiku (俳句), a type of Japanese short poems, for each guest. A slip of paper on which the poet, which is handwritten by the chef, garnishes the plate of the first dish. Mine was the historical masterpiece by Chiyojo (千代女), a historical local poet and it was as follows: On the flowers of hydrangea are drops gathered The morning sun....

Really good tempura at a higher price point, but this is fine dining so it’s to be expected! Nestled in a quiet side street only 5 mins walk away from the Higashi Chaya district in a Japanese style house, the chef cooks directly for you behind a counter, behind him a zen Japanese garden. Batter was tasty and light, and all ingredients fresh, though we were surprised to be served Fugu even though it was not seasonal. Definitely worth a visit while...
