Arpeggio — Restaurant in Karuizawa

Disappointed by service.

As travelers in the winter months in thick down and camera bag, my wife and I found this restaurant with a high star-ranking on Google map so we gave it a try. We weren't properly dressed up, as in suit and dress, since we were travelling with temperature of -3 degree and most importantly, we didn't know about this place in advance.

There were 2 waiters and we were greeted by the older one after standing by the entrance for about a minute or two. We asked for a table for 2 for dinner, and were led to the bar area instead of the dining room, despite there were only 3 out of the 20-30 tables occupied. We expressed our wish to dine in the proper dining room, and only after being asked to make our order (the most expensive set, 2) were we led to a small table, by the better service younger waiter, Mr Ken Takahashi.

With this quality of presentation and price, the service is bad. While we were waiting for our dishes the older staff came and simply told us the culinary were all in the basket in the middle of the table. Only until we were trying to figure out when to use which, did the poor younger staff came and set them up for us. The older one? No where to be seen.

Empty water glasses had been sitting there all the way alongside our wine glasses, and was filled up long into our dinner.

The food was ok, not as I had expected before walking in. I would have given 4 stars because of the good service given by the young Mr Takahashi, but the poor service and attitude of the older staff took 2 off.
