BurgerMania軽井沢 — Restaurant in Karuizawa

Note that they ask every guest to leave a review (although there's no bonus for doing it or giving a good rating or such).

Pretty good cheeseburger, but not so special I'd go out of my way to come here. I ordered it rare (they specifically ask!) and imho it was medium to well done.

But the onion rings! At first I was a bit surprised how big (so big!) of a portion this side was, but they were the best onion rings I've ever eaten so I didn't mind the portion size at all.

However, they also served the side of onion rings looooong before my burger came, so it wasn't a side as much as it was an appetizer.

The homemade craft cherry coke was pretty good as well.

Staff was friendly and helpful. You get a printed menu but are asked to order through a website - the printed menu is bilingual, the webapp is Japanese only. Apparently no problem for most people, but when the couple on the next table asked them how to change it to English, the staff was surprised to realize it's not possible! But some of the kitchen staff speak English, so they came out to take their order.

Last but not least, they like it toasty in here! I guess it's nice if you come in and feel cold, but it was rather too warm for me even after dressing down. Made me sleepy as well. Maybe that's why there are also blankets you can use, if you want to take a nap. At least the toilet was...

The staff were quite friendly and the ambiance was decent but the burger was disappointing.

Perhaps because I have fond memories of going to the Ebisu location when I lived near it I had too high expectations but the burger was tougher than I remember and smaller too. The fries also tasted sub-par.

Having it delivered on a plastic tray when I’m paying ¥1,700 also felt off, as did having to go through a poorly designed mobile ordering system (e.g. needing to set a “nickname” first and having a menu that put too much emphasis on the photos instead of the item name, which when the burgers all look similar wasn’t helpful).

This location has recently opened so I hope it will improve...
