Trattoria Caro — Restaurant in Kawagoe

Small delicious Italian restaurant.

We started with the baked sausages, and potatoes with gorgonzola. This was an excellent choice, the sausages were just the perfect amount of spicy to go with the cheese, and in what will be a theme here everything was the exact amount of crispy you would want while still being fluffy and moist on the inside.

We then had the four cheese pizza, which for a cheese lover like myself and my wife was great, especially as no one cheese overpowered the others, and again the crust was crisp without being hard or burned.

After this we ordered the Miyazaki prefecture chicken and potatoes with balsamic sauce, and it was quite unexpectedly far far better than the pizza. The sauce and chicken perfectly completed each other. Crispy, savoury, sweet, and rich, a truly lovely dish cooked to perfection by the chef.

For desert we went with the chocolate cake which was quite nice, fudge like and rich, as well as 2 of the gelatos. For the gelato we had the coconut/mint, which was surprisingly good as I don't like coconut usually but it was not a strong flavour. The other flavour was the banana caramel which was heaven I deeply love both of those flavours.

The only disappointing thing was the tea, a middling Darjeeling, and the Japanese often use cream instead of milk in their tea.

As for the atmosphere, small and a little loud due to the bare walls. The service was good. The food a bit slow but if waiting was required to achieve that quality I will gladly wait.

The bill was ¥5,700 for the two of us, though we did not drink alcohol, I did have a ginger ale. I'm sorry that I forgot to take a picture of the sausages...

Nice family owned Italian restaurant. Highly recommend the pizzas. Cheese, texture of the crust were very good. Pasta was alright but the bacon in it were very good.
